Description
Hi there,
Welcome, and thank you so much for taking the time to read my profile!
My name is Indira (although everyone calls me Syd), I have just finished full time education and I'm ready to get back to a life of travel, adventure and work.
I pride myself in being highly interested in the places I visit and the people that I meet, and have a real desire to make the lives of those around me a little more enjoyable wherever I can.
I am very hardworking, which is driven largely by a desire to help my team mates as much as possible and to see a job well done. I thrive in a work environment in which we all share a feeling of respect for one another and for the task at hand.
I have three years of experience working in pubs and hospitality to support my education. Most recently I have worked at a high-end restaurant within a care complex near London, waiting tables, serving drinks behind the bar, and helping out with laundry, room service and any extra housekeeping that would help out the team.
I spent last summer helping my uncle to flip vans from old bangers into small homes - one of which I lived in for the summer - gaining some DIY experience including sanding and painting.
I love cooking, and I'm really interested in trying new recipes from around the globe. My winter challenge was to cook a dish for my housemates from a new country each week. I often host meals for friends and family in which we will all contribute a dish. The heart of my love for cooking is in how it brings people together.
I have just spent an amazing month in Powell River learning gardening skills from a fantastic teacher. I have gained invaluable experience in pruning (specifically roses and hydrangeas) and planting vegetables and flowers and am so eager to learn more!
My work ethic is based entirely around adapting to the task at hand. True to my Cornish roots, I'm always up for anything outdoorsy. I have always had animals around me growing up, including my glorious dogs and our pet pigs. I've helped out with livestock on local farms and love to get my hands dirty in the garden, learning from my mum (staving away slugs from the veg was our shared project over lockdown). I am planet-oriented and will take the least environmentally harmful route wherever I can. I am vegetarian and will try to be as plant-based as possible depending on my living situation.
A little more about my interests...
I am a writer (my degree was in English and Creative Writing) and I'm currently writing a novel, so will be looking to fill the hours outside of work and adventure with some dedicated time to get some chapters under way.
I am a musician, I used to be a classical pianist and singer but now just play for fun, and have recently picked up the guitar. I love to play and sing with anyone else who's interested!
I'm really into yoga and my dream would be to take a yoga teacher training course in the next few years. I'm always keen to get out into the wild and swim, sail, kayak, or try whatever is on offer.
I am also a performer! I have been so lucky to spend some time performing and writing professionally with a feminist Cornish theatre group, Scary Little Girls, doing cabaret nights, poetry, singing and acting.
I'm a super friendly adventurer looking to work hard while meeting new people in fun and beautiful places.
Hopefully chat more soon!Centres d’intérêt

I would love to practice my French skills - I took French at A level but am a little out of practice and would like to improve to one day become fluent. I can offer my skills as a university English student - I love teaching people about the language and have particular interest in teaching creative writing.Compétences et connaissances que j'aimerais partager ou apprendre

Quelles sont vos compétences ?
I have worked part-time in hospitality for over a year now alongside my university studies at a luxury restaurant within a retirement village outside of London. I have learned how a kitchen is run, to wait tables, to prepare drinks behind the bar, to carry out cash and card procedures and to deliver high-quality customer service. I have also helped the housekeeping team with laundry and room service at busy times. The work is fast-paced and demanding, running with few staff to create a luxury experience for guests.
I have some experience in painting and decorating, having learned a little about renovating vans and small homes.
Above all I'm a very fast learner and I'm willing to get stuck in wherever I can help and am keen to learn new skills. It is really important to me to create and be part of a fun and supportive team.Âge
