  • Description

    Hey guys!
I'm Ian, I was born in Mexico and I've lived and traveled all over the world. My dad is English so I was raised bilingual.

I'm currently on the Canaries for a few months looking to see if I want to stay here long term. I spent 5 months here last year and I fell in love with the island and people here.

I love being part of a community, learning new skills, and creating with others. I'm currently getting a Permaculture Design Certificate and have spent the last 4 months teaching myself different aspects of agriculture such as Korean Natural Farming and soil microbiology. I'm learning all this because at some point my dream is to buy a piece of land and integrate all this knowledge into it to create a space where I can grow organic food and create a community.

Before I started this path I studied Economics and Finance in London and then traveled and worked around the world for about 5 years before starting my own vertical farming company in Berlin. Along with my business partners we designed and built a system that could be placed on rooftops and that used aquaponics to grow food. The idea was to use these underutilised spaces to grow food and provide community spaces in cities.

I enjoy working with both my hands and brain, connecting with others, making music, yoga and running, and being in nature. I'm also trying to get better at surfing.

Last year I spent a few months at a Workaway in Tenerife where I disassembled hundreds of pallets before being put in charge of the garden. I organised the planting and harvesting processes and built a Hügel Beet.

I'm travelling around the island in my car with my partner. Anne is from Germany where she just finished her Bachelor's degree in social work. During her studies she was working in a psychosocial centre for refugees where she was mostly coordinating appointments with psychiatrists and psychotherapists. Moreover Anne did a 6 months internship working with women who experience domestic violence. She has split up the time working 4 months in a women refuge in Germany and has spent 2 months afterwards in Mexico working in a Mexican non-profit organization.
Anne also did a yoga teacher training course in a German yogastudio and would like to get some experience in teaching. Besides doing Yoga she loves to be in nature (no matter if it's a hike, camping or just a chilled beach day), explore new places and being with people. So far she is not experienced in gardening and farming but she is open and curious to learn more about it.

  • Quelles sont vos compétences ?

Designing and building a 2m x 3m aquaponic system from scratch meant we had to become a jack of all trades. We had to learn Engineering, Carpentry, Gardening, being a Marine and Plant Biologist, Water chemistry, thermal dynamics, sales, accounting, endless patience, etc.
We also learned how to start a business, and how to fail at starting a business :D The second one taught us a lot more.
On the soft skills we also play guitar and ukulele, dabble in some djembe, and love playing sports (especially ping pong).
