  • Description

Hello! We are Harry and Sinead, a couple in our early thirties from England who are soon setting off travelling around the world - again!

Our first travelling experience together was in 2017 when we backpacked around SE Asia, Australia, Canada and finished in France and Italy. We travelled and workaway-ed our way round and had the time of our lives... We headed home with heavy hearts at this point but have very much enjoyed the last few years living in London, building our careers, buying a flat and getting married (in Portugal)!

We are ready to go again following 6 years back in the corporate world, and cannot wait to live outside, meet new people and continue learning new things both as individuals and as a couple.

At home in Streatham, South London, Harry was a senior web developer working in fintech and therefore can be useful for matters involving IT, payment platforms and simple web design. Sinead was a Supply Planning Manager for a global beer company and has a background in operations and logistics, so tackles anything to do with organisation, processes and people.

In terms of skills, we are finding it hard to put into words what we can do specifically - we are more than happy to muck in with anything! Manual labour, painting, helping with guests - we really like to turn our hands to anything that presents itself but we especially enjoy learning new DIY skills and being outside.

    Previous Workaway Experience:
We volunteered on a lamb farm near Kamloops, BC Canada, and helped with construction of new barns and fences, animal care and helping keep the family home running, learning many new skills every day.

We house sat for three weeks in Nova Scotia, Canada, and completed a list of odd jobs that our host had left us including painting, organising tools and breaking down old furniture. We took care of her alpacas and dogs. Upon her return, we did some further work on the house.

We helped in the construction of a brewery in Aurignac, France. This included becoming experts in mixing and applying lime render to walls! We also put in the insulation in the ceiling, worked with concrete and various power tools.

We are happy to put these new skills to use or to keep learning new things!

We are open to volunteering experiences anywhere and everywhere. We both love nature so opportunities to be outside seeing mountains, lakes and anything else the world has to offer is a huge pull for us. We have both completed our PADI Open Water Diver certification, and we love to walk, hike, and explore the great outdoors. We have a huge interest in health and fitness and don't mind getting our hands dirty. As well as this side, Harry is happy to squirrel away at IT problems and Sinead loves to cook up a storm in the kitchen. Please run opportunities past us - I'm sure we'll be happy to give it a go!

    Further Background

    Sinead
I completed a degree in 'Childhood and Youth Studies' at Exeter University, which involved learning about the sociological aspects of childhood that shape us as we grow up as well as the political aspects - educational policies and such. I worked with children with special needs for 2 years whilst at University and also used to teach at 'Stagecoach' - a performing arts school for children. Theatre and the arts is one of my passions in life, and I love going to see plays and getting stuck into a good book. I used to ride horses regularly and won a couple of show jumping competitions in my time so any opportunities to get back in the saddle would be awesome. Other previous experience includes waitressing / working behind a bar and a lot of customer service!
I like solving problems, and getting things done. If there's a project that needs to be completed, I am great at seeing the whole picture and planning it out, divvying up work and then getting stuck in myself. Manual labour is not something that scares me - in fact I enjoy the challenge and love completing the task and celebrating the achievements.

    Harry
I was born and raised in London, so a city boy I suppose. By trade I am a senior software engineer, having worked in the live-streaming industry, on various live event technologies and most recently cutting my teeth building high-performance payment systems for a FinTech startup in London. Despite my work keeping me inside and sat behind a desk, what I really love is being outdoors. I eat pretty much anything, happy to get stuck in with whatever is thrown my way and always looking to learn something new.
