Hiya, I'm Sarah! Born in London but I was raised in Ireland. My first language is Gaeilge ( Irish ), and I am also fluent in English. I have a beginner level of German and would love to improve! I have experience teaching martial arts and as an English tutor. At home I was responsible for our cats/dogs/chickens, and I have worked in a horse yard, riding and tending to the horses. I currently work for a pet-sitting company in London. I have a degree in Paramedic Science (BSc), therefore am thoroughly trained in: Basic/Advanced Life Support, Pediatric care, Geriatric/ End of Life care. along with basic first aid and health and safety. I have worked as a cleaner during University, and an Event First Aider in London. In the past year I returned to Ireland and trained/worked as a barista and waitress in a 4 star hotel. I have some experience gardening and would love to develop my green thumb! I did art for 6 years at school, collaborating on projects and expressing my artistic creativity. I have experience with and competed in public speaking my whole life, having a love for the written word.

Hey I'm Harry - I'm just finishing up my degree in Computer Science (BSc). I have been working since a teenager and have experience across a wide range of roles
in a variety of work environments. This show cases my diverse skill set, strong work ethic, adaptability and eagerness to learn. In my current role, I manage operations and purchasing for a beverage company, where I've honed my coding skills in VBA, Python, and Java. My background includes experience in hospitality, retail, and culinary arts, having worked as a bartender, supermarket associate, and food truck chef. I've also tackled hands-on roles in cleaning, warehousing, and even at a clay pigeon shooting range, as an instructor. Fluent in English, I'm open to learning new languages and cultures. My passion for technology extends to my love for DJing, and I have a soft spot for animals, having cared for pets throughout my life. Whether it's applying my tech skills, helping with daily operations, or rolling up my sleeves for physical tasks, I'm excited to contribute my abilities and embrace new experiences.

We have been together for four years now, living with each other for two :)
We enjoy hiking together, trying out new recipes, and traveling when we can. In the evenings, we often play Scrabble (Sarah usually wins), or chess (Harry usually wins). We both enjoy reading, and Sarah is hoping to work on her book in the coming months. Sarah crochets and knits, and Harry has recently learned to sew. We try to mend our own clothes, as we both abhor fast fashion. We would love to spend time working on a farm/ homestead where we can reconnect with nature. Ideally, we would like to work with animals and get involved with the local community whenever we can.

Harry and I spent just over a month with Josie and her family in their lovely home in Tivenys. The location itself was amazing, serene and tranquil nature with beautiful sunsets and sunrises. One is… read more even open on Sundays but most close during midday.
It was a great first workaway for us, as they were from the UK and it made the transition easy as there was no language barrier :) Josie cooked a wide variety of foods but the main cuisine in the house is British- eg. the BEST gravy.
The work varied from day to day. Every morning we rose around 7am, had breakfast (cereal, tea/coffee), and started our work at 8am. The first tasks were to feed the chickens, the boar (General George), and the cat (Steve) . Every day we collected George's poop, and once in the month we cleared out the chicken run. The olive trees were not fruitful enough to harvest unfortunately, but we maintained the trees and the land around them. We spent most days harvesting carobs, which involves kneeling/crawling under trees and picking the crop off the floor. Josie provided gloves and equipment for this. We also did some gardening, chainsawing and strimming. When it rained we didn't work outside, instead there was work inside to do such as: organising the shed, tidying the terrace and cleaning the kitchen. We got a tea break at 10ish, with some biscuits (the cinnamon ones were my fave). We finished work for the day at 12:30/1 and then we had lunch. This would sometimes be hotdogs, Spanish tortilla, or yesterdays leftovers. There was always plenty of food to eat :)
We often had siestas, and we could do as we pleased until dinner around 6pm. Some afternoons we would go down to the river-40 minute walk if you're slow like me. Lots of quartz stone and cool rocks to be found and the river itself is gorgeous.
We worked 5 days a week, so we had the weekends free. One weekend we went to Valencia by train, Barcelona is just as accessible. Josie was very generous with giving us a lift to and from the station.
Josie is an avid storyteller and she is a great teacher, showing us how to use the chainsaws and strimmers. She has been a host with Workaway for quite a while now so she doesn't take any rubbish! The farm work is one aspect of staying here, there is also a level of companionship expected in the afternoons/evenings so if you are extremely introverted then keep this in mind . We played LOTS of scrabble which I absolutely adored. We learned loads of new words.
Chris also lives on the farm, working remotely full time and being a DJ/ radio host so he does not get involved with the day to day work. We loved when we did get to sit with him and have a chat in the evenings, he's a great guy and a joy to spend time with. Barry is an absolute treasure, he's always making sure you've got a hot drink and a biscuit in your hand :)
The two dogs they have at the moment are Poppy and Smarty, they always put a smile on our faces they are absolute sweeties. They're small dogs and they do live inside the house, which obviously did not cause any problems, if you were to ask that they stay outside it's more likely you that would be let out!
They have limited water/ power so showers are to be kept short (<3mins ) and during the middle of the day. Water is turned off at night. To brush your teeth use a bottle of water which I actually really liked! I will be bringing this habit with me in life as it is a really easy way to reduce water wastage.
All in all it was a really interesting experience, and we're very grateful that they hosted us.
