Description

I am a 28 year old from London. I've spent the last 5 years working in theatre, managing and producing shows, and I'm looking to take a break to get out of the city and remind myself there's more to life than show biz. I am looking to travel, broaden my horizons and meet interesting and different people.

I am self-reliant, independent and honest. I am a free-thinking, open minded and accepting person, looking to join a positive and energetic environment. I am creative, I love projects and making things, from clothes to redecorating rooms to great food. I love experiencing new culture, from the theatre to art and literature. I also love being outdoors, from walking and cycling to skiing, roller skating, sailing and swimming.

I am fun, chatty, love a good conversation setting the world to rights, and I am motivated to have new experiences and learn new skills. I come from a large family of 4 children and have grown up around legions of cousins- so I have good people skills and very much enjoy being part of a large group! I want to meet people and gain new life experiences, whilst sharing with those I meet all I know and any skills I have to offer.

I am an experienced traveller, from facing scorching hot summer in Russia (pre-war!!) to hiking up into the mountains in Montenegro to staying in rural Romania working on a summer camp. I enjoy visiting remote places, spending time each year (summer and winter!) in an off grid island cabin without electricity or a bathroom.

I have Workaway'd previously, staying for 2 months on a Dutch family's boat whilst we converted their barge next door, and staying in a Vietnamese English school for university students. I enjoyed both hugely and - now I have a bit of time - am looking to once again explore further afield and meet people.

Currently I'd like to go somewhere really cold, in Northern Europe; I went to Sweden some years ago and the experience has stuck with me, both the harsh but regenerating reality of dealing with such intense cold and also the immense peace of it - the snow dampens all the sound. Off the back of a very intense 5 years in theatre, this feels exactly what I need, but I'm very much open to all opportunities out of the city.

I am looking to help hosts out in every way I can, to put all my energy into whatever they are looking for. I am both practical and good with people. I am adaptable, sociable and helpful, and hope to provide a lot in a reciprocal relationship with a host! I would also love to pick up some new language skills and immerse myself in new culture.

I enjoy singing, reading, listening to music, swimming, exploring and cooking. I am teaching myself guitar, slowly but surely. I am independent, creative, motivated and would love to join a family or team of people to realise dreams or help with daily life. I am active and enthusiastic, and would love the opportunity to prove myself useful!

Quelles sont vos compétences ?

Cooking- I am a good and adventurous cook! I am semi-vegetarian and enjoy cooking with and for others. I have experience cooking for large groups!

Driving- I have driven for over 9 years and have a clean UK drivers licence. I have experience driving larger vehicles - 9 seater transporters and luton vans. I have experience driving on both the left and right.

Sewing- I make clothes for myself, and have spent much time making costumes for theatre. I can also make curtains.

DIY- I am very practical, and good at problem solving. I have experience converting garden sheds. I stripped out one and made it into a bedroom (including making the curtains), and another I painted gold and maroon and added seating around the edge.

Practical- I often holiday in a house with no facilities (electricity, running water etc) and am very hardy as a result! We find and chop our own wood to burn, carry supplies 2 miles to get there and catch our own fish and shrimps from the sea. I am the one called upon when my house experience problems, and have solved issues such as broken toilets, blocked plumbing, broken gas hobs and malfunctioning fire alarms. I am also the master of flat packed furniture!

Gardening- I have some gardening experience. I have created a functional fire pit area in my garden by clearing an area of woodland, and decorated it with lights and seating.

Music- I am a keen singer, and I am learning to play guitar. I love listening to great music, particularly 60's-80's.

Cleaning- Very happy to help out with communal cleaning responsibilities, but very much not looking to become a live-in cleaner!!

Computer skills- I am good with computers, and became the in house IT consultant for my previous workplace. I'm pretty nifty at IT trouble shooting.

Bar skills- I have worked in bars, restaurants and cafes

Pets- I have grown up surrounded by animals, and would enjoy helping out with animal care

Fast learner- I pick up new skills quickly, and am always keen to learn something new!

Independent- I am a very independent traveller! I hitch-hiked from northern England to Paris for free, and I have travelled to many "further afield" locations, from Kenya to Türkiye to Russia. I like finding things for myself to do in new place.

Organised- I have organised costumes for a cast of 30, leading a team of 4 to do so. I also wrote my 15,000 word dissertation whilst performing in a musical in my third term of university.

Social- I am very sociable! I was always the one to hold the evening entertainment, both at school and at university. I love hosting people and organising events, making sure everyone has a good time!

I love card games! Racing Demon, Oh Hell, Apple Tree. Always up for a board game - Ticket to Ride is my favourite. It's like Risk without the arguments.

I love swimming and being near/ preferably in the sea. I love to sail, and have discovered a competitive streak that only comes out in dinghy racing. I'm an ardent skier - I'd love to learn to snowboard. I love going on walks, especially if it's windy.

I've grown up visiting a cottage on an off grid island, drinking rainwater and fishing, carrying all possessions and supplies over when the tide goes fully out and you can walk out to the island. Summer days are spent splashing in and out of the sea and reading; winter is spent keeping the house warm with the kettle always on. It's my favourite place in the world.

I like animals. I've grown up around a menagerie - unusual for my family's city life. We had chickens, guinea pigs, cats, dogs, litters from both, and - briefly - two goats.

I'm creative, and a problem solver. I'm also enormously practical. I can sew well.

Beyond all, I'm good company. I've grown up in a very large family, which I think is always good for character and sanding off the rough edges - you have to get along with people. I like having lots of people around, and I'm a collaborator - I like making things work for the team.
