Description

Hi! We are Carmen (28) and Gaia (26), we are both energetic and adventurous and love spending time hiking and frolicking in nature. Carmen is Spanish and Gaia is Colombian, so we are both native Spanish speakers. We are keen to share our cultures and language with you, and we would love to learn about yours!!

We lived in London for 7 years and have decided to travel around Japan for one year. We hope to immerse ourselves in Japan's daily life, connect with locals and contribute to the community.

Carmen is a professional dancer who loves cooking, reading and everything arts and crafts related.
She worked as a Teacher Assistant in a primary school for 3 years, and has over 7 years of experience as a nanny. She's cheerful, patient and hardworking. She's always down to learn new skills and would love to improve her (still very basic) gardening and carpentry knowledge.

Gaia is a skilled photographer with a love for art, skating, and animals. She’s curious and imaginative, often diving deep into topics that inspire her and turning them into creative ideas. She’s excited to start her journey in permaculture and eager to gain hands-on experience in sustainable living.

Both Carmen and I have been learning Japanese for over a year and our knowledge is still very basic, we really want to improve our level during our stay in Japan. We are native Spanish speakers and both of us speak English fluently. We are more than willing to teach these languages to anyone interested.

Carmen is a professional dancer with a creative and caring nature. She has 3 years of experience as a Teacher Assistant in a primary school and over 7 years working as a nanny, making her patient, responsible, and great with children. She enjoys cooking, reading, and arts & crafts, and is always eager to learn new practical skills, especially gardening and carpentry. She can offer dance lessons, babysitting, cooking, cleaning, language exchange (Spanish & English), and general help with daily tasks.

Gaia
Gaia is a skilled photographer with a strong artistic eye and a love for animals, skating, and creative projects. She is imaginative, curious, and motivated to learn, especially in permaculture and sustainable living. She is excited to gain hands-on experience and contribute actively to community life. Gaia can offer photography, pet care, language exchange (Spanish & English), cooking, cleaning, and support with any creative or practical tasks needed.

Our time in Fujieda was a dream! Koichi, Haruka and Kotaro, thank you so much for welcoming us into your home and sharing with us a little piece of your lifestyle.
We stayed for a month in July 2026, and we couldn’t have asked for a better place to spend part of our summer.

The area around the house is absolutely beautiful. We really enjoyed … read more exploring the surroundings on the bikes they lent us, especially the waterfall near the house and the little shrines around town.
Koichi-san’s natural farming project is fascinating, and we learnt so much about a way of farming that is respectful of the environment and focused on growing healthy, delicious vegetables, guided by the belief that we are part of nature, and should live in harmony with it. He has a vegetable garden and three rice fields, and our main task was cutting the wild grass around the rice plants so they could grow strong! Fujieda is very hot and humid in the summer, so the work was physically demanding, but being outdoors and surrounded by such beautiful scenery gave us so much energy. Our hosts were always very attentive and made sure we stayed hydrated and protected from the sun, offering us plenty of cold tea and drinks.
We worked five hours a day and were free to organise our own schedule and working hours. Because of the heat, we chose to wake up early and start working at 5am, take a break from 8–9am for breakfast, and finish around 11am. This gave us the rest of the day to rest, explore, or simply enjoy the area. The view of the rice fields at sunrise is something we won’t forget.
They provided meals on workdays, and Haruka’s cooking is absolutely delicious! Carmen was also lucky enough to join one of Haruka’s yoga classes, which was a beautiful, relaxing and spiritual experience.

As Gaia is a photographer, part of our exchange was also creating a photoshoot for Koichi-san’s natural farming project. It was so much fun getting creative and working together as a team to bring the ideas to life, and we were really happy with how the pictures came together.

Beyond the work, we really enjoyed getting to know all three of them. We did many fun things together, like going to the onsen, and Haruka-san invited us for dinner at her parents’ house, where we had a lovely evening, watching sumo and playing with the neighbour’s kitties.
And of course, we loved getting to know Kotaro, such a special kid. We had so much fun playing together, building Lego, doing origami and coming up with silly little games.
All in all it was an unforgettable experience. Thank you again for making us feel so welcome, for sharing your home and your daily life with us, and for all the good memories. Until we meet again!
