Hi! We are Gabi and Maddie, two friends currently living and working in Avon, Colorado. We are adventurous, curious and artistic. We work for the same non-profit, Walking Mountains Science Center, that leads environmental education programs for people of all ages as well as helping make our local area as sustainable as possible. We are extremely excited to travel to Central America this November to Panama, Costa Rica or Nicaragua and are very interested in sustainable living, building community, and learning from your culture and sharing ours! We are eager to explore such a different, biodiverse ecosystem as well as immerse ourselves in Central American culture. We gain happiness from working outdoors, learning all things related to the environment, from eco-tourism to permaculture. We also love working with people of all ages!

Gabi (she/her) currently works as a naturalist. She leads interpretive short walks, backcountry hikes, as well as early childhood environmental education programs for toddlers and preschoolers. She loves teaching people about nature to inspire them and hopefully provoke environmental care. Other experiences she has had include commercially guiding whitewater rafting in Colorado and guiding glacier hikes in Alaska. In 2020, she used Workaway and WWOOF to do work-exchanges at three different farms in the United States and fell in love with farming, gardening and the strong connections that she made. Gabi graduated university with a degree in Environmental Studies. She loves cooking, creating art, and camping. Gabi is very excited to support your mission and learn all she can! She is especially interested in education programs, organic gardening and permaculture, and language exchange to improve her intermediate Spanish skills.

Maddie (she/her) was born and raised in the front range of Colorado. She currently works with the waste stream to divert waste from Vail Valley. She also helps educate the community about recycling, composting, land management, and other sustainable activities such as energy efficiency walk throughs, waste auditing, and upcycling projects. She graduated from college with a major in mass communications: digital strategies and is passionate about social media as a tool for education and supporting local communities, families, and organizations. She also studied English and environmental science. Some of Maddie’s passions include permaculture design, food security, and advocacy for the lgbtq+ community. In her free time, she enjoys reading, writing poetry, free drawing, and spending time outdoors with friends.

Quelles sont vos compétences ?

Gabi has a lot of experience in customer service and as an educator/teacher, mainly from her experience working with guests guiding environmental education and outdoor adventure programs. She also has done three work-exchanges on farms, where she gained skills harvesting fruits and vegetables, weeding, planting, raking, composting, and some beginner landscaping projects. She is also an artist and a decent cook, and has taken many art courses. She speaks some Spanish and would love to improve it.

Maddie loves working a dirty job for the benefit of her community. From trail maintenance to gardening, cleaning and manual chores, etc., she has experience working in a team. Building recreational trails, along with improving water management, rock work, and fence building are skills Maddie takes pride in. Maddie also enjoys educating young children, and has worked as a summer camp counselor and educator for three years. She also has communications, marketing and social media skills from her Mass Communications study at university. With an intermediate level knowledge of Spanish, she hopes to improve her speaking skills and is willing to exchange her knowledge of English and literature.

Gabi LOVES parcheezi and basically all board games and family fun! Maddie also loves board games. We appreciate our quiet time, but also spending time making valuable connections and learning from others!
