  • Description

We are a couple from Brisbane, Australia, both aged 24, who enjoy travelling and outdoor adventures. We are hardworking and have graduated from University and embarked on careers-Julia is a physiotherapist and Flynn is a transport planner. While we enjoy our jobs back at home, it has always been our goal to prioritise travel, so currently we are taking a career break to travel around Europe and Asia for around 12 months. This is our first time doing a "workaway", but we really resonate with the philosophy/concept. We are aiming to travel budget/slow-travel style, and are particularly looking forward to getting out in nature, hiking, and exploring new towns/cities while we are away.

We are friendly, respectful people, and are happy to adapt to your way of life, get outside of our comfort zone, and help out with any task that is required during the workaway stay. We would like to learn about different cultures, and have an authentic "slow travel" experience. While we are happy to work fairly independently on tasks, we would also love the opportunity to participate in a "cultural exchange", and engage with/get to know our hosts, as we are social people who value authenticity and connection with others.

Flynn lived in Grenoble, France for a few years as a child, and continues to study French, so would love the opportunity to communicate with hosts in French. Julia is half Italian, has travelled to Italy several times to visit family there, and can speak it at an intermediate level. We both speak English fluently (native speakers).

  • Quelles sont vos compétences ?

    Flynn:
I work as a transport modeller, which means I forecast demand on the transport network (roads, public transport, walking, cycling) to help plan transport projects. I studied mechanical engineering and mathematics at university, so I have skills in computer programming, maths, excel and engineering. I enjoy DIY and fixing things (often my bicycle), and have some experience with small woodwork and engineering projects. I love the outdoors and have an appreciation for gardening as my parents are keen gardeners. I can also help with cooking, baking and cleaning. I learnt French as a child when my family lived in Grenoble for 2 years, but after moving back to Australia I haven’t used it at all. The last few years I have been re-learning French, including a 4-month exchange in Montreal, Canada, so I would love to speak as much French as possible with the host. Most of my hobbies are sport/outdoors activities including cycling, golf, Australian rules football, cricket, netball, hiking, skiing, and surfing. I also play a little piano.

    Julia:
I am a neurological Physiotherapist, who helps rehabilitate people after they have had a brain injury, spinal cord injury or stroke. So I'm a very caring person and have good communication skills. In my spare time, I enjoy being creative- for example crafting, drawing, and painting. I also help my mum run a silk eco-dyeing market stall in Brisbane. I really enjoy photography, particularly fashion photography and taking photos with my iPhone while travelling. I have a good eye for the aesthetics. I would be happy to assist with taking photos for a hosts website/social media, or workaway profile. I love being outside, and would be happy to assist with any farming, gardening, or general housework/maintenance. I don't have much experience with building, renovating or diy, but I am very eager to learn as I believe this will be a useful life skill to have. I'm also happy to assist with cooking/cleaning as required. My family has a dog so I'm comfortable around most animals. As I speak some Italian, it would be great to practice if the host also spoke some Italian. But otherwise I would speak English and hopefully learn some beginner French words. I'm happy to teach or practice English with hosts, too! I really enjoy travelling, and have done other solo travelling in the past, so would love to get travel advice/inspiration and share travel stories.

    • Allergies
Julia is allergic to some nuts, but not all of them. She can eat peanuts, hazelnuts and almonds.

    • Régime alimentaire spécial
Julia is allergic to some nuts, but this should not be an issue. If meals aren't able to be adjusted, she can cook an alternative. It is ok if there are nuts in the house or if the hosts eat nuts around her- no problem.
