  • Description

Hello there! I am 18 years old living in the UK, and I am taking a year out from school to go travelling before returning to start my university studies in 2025. I am super excited to head to New Zealand and Australia for several months, and I am keen to get as much out of my travels as possible.
When I return to university I will be studying environmental science with outdoor education, and I want to gain a practical knowledge of the techniques being used across the world to protect our planet and allow it to flourish for future generations. I believe that many of the experiences offered by Workaway hosts will allow me to gain valuable first-hand experience for sustainable living and eco-friendly practices that will complement my uni degree.

In my free time I am a very adventurous and outdoorsy person - I love being outdoors and in nature, especially for hiking, swimming, canoeing, etc. I'm up for spontaneous camping trips in whatever weather, and would love the opportunity and privilege to be introduced to some of the wilder places of NZ and Australia. I also consider myself to be quite an artistic person, I make a lot of DIY crafts using leftover materials around the house which I believe is important for sustainability and reducing the waste we throw away. I am the proud owner of many houseplants, and I have started teaching myself more about plant care as it is my dream in the future to have a large biodiverse garden for myself.

I am not afraid of hard work, and I am eager to try my hand at a little bit of everything - from animal care to building renovation and conservation projects to gardening. I wish also to be immersed in the local cultures, learning respect and appreciation for people all over the world, and it is my hope that I would come away from this with long-lasting friendships and cherished memories, and at the same time making a positive impact through my volunteering.

  • Quelles sont vos compétences ?

I have been skiing from a young age and since 15 I have been instructing snowsports to younger skiers, which has given me a unique knowledge of how to manage groups of differing abilities and make sure everyone in the group is having a great time whilst staying safe and learning new skills. This has also given me the ability to assess weather and mountain conditions to determine if certain activities are suitable to keep everyone safe.
This past year I have been working in the hospitality industry, which means I get to meet loads of amazing people who have travelled from all over the world. This has expanded my ability to speak to people and get to know others, which has broadened my confidence and I wish to continue to increase my confidence throughout my travels.
During my secondary school years I was heavily involved in our charity organisation to raise money for local food banks, set up a clothing exchange system for those who required it, and organise fundraising events for Children in Need, Red Nose Day, and End Polio Now, among other organisations. This involved collaborating with multiple groups of people from across the school and community to coordinate and implement these strategies, and in my later years I took on a leadership role which involved managing teams of pupils and staff. I learnt many important skills throughout this time, including how to delegate tasks efficiently and fairly, and how to manage conflict which arose between groups and individuals.
