Hey there,
we would like to introduce ourselves. We are Ema and Oliver, both 22 years old. We come from Slovakia, but we currently study at a university in the Czech Republic. We've known each other for 11 years, 6 of which being a couple and best friends. We are new to the Workaway community but travelling and working abroad is nothing new to us. On our journey of self-exploration, after high school, we spontaneously ended up in a Finnish Lapland as a dog sledding guide and dog handlers (basically a person for everything) for 4 months to better realize what we want our next episode of life to look like. As we value the opportunity of having an education, we enrolled at a university and now we have one year left to finish our bachelor's studies. Since travelling has always had a place in our hearts, we constantly try to combine those two together and spice things up. Last year we went on an Erasmus experience and now we want to use our free months between semesters to explore more of the world. In our free time, we enjoy taking long walks and hikes in nature, or simply relaxing with a good book and a cup of coffee.
Ema: As I was writing these few sentences, I realized that most things about me have foundations in the most dominant part: my connection and love for nature. It is the reason why I chose to study Environmental hazards and climate change, considering nature protection and awareness as fundamental in our time. It is the reason why I became fascinated with herbalism, and I try to learn and experiment with herbs and plants, as I believe there's so much healing power stored in them. Along with that, I'm learning how to ferment food and drinks and how to integrate them into cooking, which is also one of my hobbies. I love animals and having them around me and as well as I enjoy sports, yoga and physical activity in general. Travelling is another passion of mine, as it gives me a sense of freedom and excitement. This drive led me to work in Finland for a few months, study in beautiful Ljubljana for a semester through the Erasmus programme, and now motivates me to volunteer. I can't wait to see what's waiting for us there. To describe my personality, I'm a mix of traits as I can be outgoing, communicative and very straightforward, but sometimes I also need to recharge my batteries by being alone.
Oliver: I come from a small and rural village set near beautiful hills in central Slovakia. Our family has always lived in a house surrouded by animals and work needed in every corner. Work is not foreign to me and I will gladly learn something new through which I can help in every possible way:) Currently, my focus of study is musicology, since I’ve always had a huge passion for analyzing and contemplating music in every possible way. I gained another perspective on my field of study as well as straightening my priorities in life through Erasmus in Ireland and working as a dog sledding guide in Lapland. All the people from every different culture possible, have shown me that this is what I want to pursue, that I want to travel to every possible destination, meet and get to know people while trying as many things as I can squeeze into my life. I consider myself as a very open minded person willing to say yes to every opportunity to brighten up the day. If you have any animals whatsoever at your home, that’s a big YES for me as I have been surrounded by them my whole life. I also have a huge passion for cooking and baking. Trying and combining different elements in the kitchen is really fascinating and I would love to taste and learn something from your local cuisine (maybe an important thing to say here for someone that I am a vegetarian). The opportunity to travel and see another corner of the world while working and exploring would be amazing no matter where in the world!

Quelles sont vos compétences ?
Ema: Probably my most valued skill is sewing, which I've been doing for many years now mostly by upcycling and creating my wardrobe, but it can come in handy in many different areas. I have some knowledge about climbing techniques and gear which I gained as an instructor in a climbing centre. I have basic skills in gardening, and this is where I'm most determined to grow and learn, as one day, I want to have permaculture of my own. I'm creative, I can make compromises and communicate things out, and I'm also very good cook :)) Simply put, my approach is that as much as I don't know, I want to learn! And I'm learning fast.
Oliver: Many of the skills I acquired during my life are pretty handful for everyday life. From basic work around the house as gardening, building, and basically taking care of the land to creating and producing music, playing with graphics design, and photography. I have been playing many instruments and singing my whole life with having a lot of interest in sound design and musical management. As I mentioned before, I loooove cooking and baking, hoping to try every possible cuisine in the world there is! The sphere where I would like to learn the most would be gardening and helping with creating a new environment for living with amazing people.
