Description
Moin☺️!
I’m Eltje, a 19-year-old girl from northern Germany. Last year I finished high school and now, before starting to study, I want to use the chance of my free time and travel a bit - to see a bit of the world, experience different cultures and of course connect with new people!
My wish to travel was “founded” by my family when I was rather young. Thanks to them always telling captivating stories of their travels and in generally being very welcoming of other people in our home, a spark was ignited and the wish manifested over time. From a very early age I also got to have a lot of contact to people of different cultures. Our guests from all over the world will often stay with us for a couple of nights and integrate into the family (we had guests from England, Russia, the US etc.)
The school exchanges I took part in only confirmed my travel-wish when I got to experience how cool it is to dive into a new culture and how (sometimes surprisingly easy) it is to connect with people.
Through getting in contact with the different cultures (and therefore many languages and dialects) I am really interested in learning languages and the history about them. And I am proud as punch if I get to use my knowledge to buy something in the national language or even just say “basic” phrases like hello, thank you, bye etc. in everyday life. While what I've picked up though those exchanges, friends, family, colleagues etc. can be a bit rusty, I love learning further on!
I have one younger (biological) sibling and many more cousins and siblings by choice. I’d love to fulfil my sister-role in your family too and be a sister for even more siblings😊.
My friends and family describe me as a curious, ambitious, brainy, kind and empathetic person with a strong sense of justice who loves thinking, to puzzle and will ask questions until you’re full of them (like a having-a-question-limit-where-I-was-only-allowed-to-ask-questions-until-8-pm-kind of situation😅). I love having fun and laughing till my tummy hurts and enjoy the silliest little jokes, some of which you will definitely hear if we meet.
Moreover, I am interested in all sciences, but especially the marine, biological and life sciences captivated me. I also have a lot of plants which I care for, most of them are indoor but some are also outdoor.
Besides that I am very fond of music. I have fun playing accordion (and recently I have started violin). I love listening to music while singing along and adore people who are able to play their instrument like their second voice.
Furthermore, I really like working with kids and young people. Whether it’s talking and playing with them or baking and building something, I find joy in working with them and am especially passionate and patient about explaining them the what & how behind something. I am also a youth group leader in our local youth club where we meet up with the kids once a week and do a camp twice a year.
Overall, I have a lot of energy and love sports and games of all kinds. (Now I don’t say that I am an ace in sports but I have a lot of fun doing them and I can get quite competitive). My life mainly includes biking, walking, sailing and the occasional jog, as well as playing volleyball, badminton, table tennis or hockey with friends. For around 10 years I did horseback riding before I had to pause because of the school load, same thing with yoga. And I love table games which also can get a bit physical in our family.
Along with all of the above I have fun trying new things, so if there is a certain activity or hobby you have – I'm always up to try something new!
I also enjoy indulging in a good book and trying out new recipes while cooking and baking.
A random side fact: I really love snow (if there is snow, I WILL go out and I WILL try to build a snowman or do a snow angel, no matter the snow consistency or amount) and it is one of my ultimate dreams to see the northern lights again one day!
Now, enough rambling - that was a lot but I hope you got a little idea of who I am. If you should still have any questions feel free to contact me!
Thank you for reading and I look forward to meeting you, getting to know you and dive into your culture!
Kind regards
Eltje 🤗 -

Quelles sont vos compétences ?
I am good with kids and very patient with them, especially when it comes to explaining something to them (which I love!). I love doing all kinds of stuff with them, whether it’s playing, discussing, building, reading, having fun, learning something, or running around.
I also like working in the garden, getting my hands all muddy and have a lot of plants, indoors as well as outdoors. I have no problem with physical work in general or getting my hands dirty. I also enjoy cooking and baking.
Language wise I speak German as my mother tongue and learned English (10 years), Latin (7 years) and French (2 years) in school. I’m interested in languages in general and love learning about new languages, thanks to my knowledge in Latin I pick up vocabulary of roman languages relatively fast. Every time I go to a different country, I also try to learn a bit of the language, out of respect and because I believe that languages are part of the key to the culture. This way I’ve picked up a bit of Italian, Finish and Dutch over time. Due to some of my Brazilian coworkers I can also understand a little bit of Portuguese.
I’m really interested in music as well, I love listening to it, singing and play accordion (10 years) and have started violin again (1 year).
Furthermore I have experience in caring for animals. I have one cat, watched dogs and cats from friends when they were on vacation and have been riding and working with horses for around 13 years.
Workwise I have worked in the service staff in an ice cream shop during the last two seasons and am working in a creperie on a Christmas market right now. -
