Hello! We’re Eline and Marianne, a Belgian-Dutch and Austrian couple that met in Valencia, Spain and currently lives in Ghent, Belgium, both excited to experience the world and immerse ourselves in new cultures through Workaway. We both come from backgrounds in languages and intercultural communication, so we’re passionate about connecting with others, learning from different perspectives, and sharing our own.

We both recently graduated from a master's in Intercultural Communication Management. Eline after having studied Literature and Linguistics, Marianne after completing a bachelor's degree in Translation studies, so we both bring a deep understanding and passion of language and culture into our travels. We believe in the power of language to open up connections and understanding. Eline has Dutch (Flemish) as a native language, speaks English fluently, and has an intermediate level in French and Spanish. Marianne has German as a native language, and speaks English, as well as a bit of Spanish. In addition to this, every day is a bit of a language exchange, as we actively try to teach each other our native language!

We both love spending time outdoors. Eline is a passionate hiker and nature enthusiast with a special attachment to plants, missing them every time we're away from home! Growing up, she was part of the scouting community for 15 years. This experience taught her resilience, outdoor skills, management and event skills and how to work well with children and groups. Marianne, who comes from a family of bakers, shares a similar love for nature and is especially skilled at baking bread (her dad passed down his best techniques to her!). We both love to cook and try new (vegetarian) recipes. In addition to this, we love taking care of animals, as we both grew up around them during our childhood!

Helping others and making positive connections is close to both of our hearts. We’re ready to lend a hand with daily tasks, share our language skills, and be a reliable and supportive presence in any environment. In joining Workaway, we hope to immerse ourselves fully in the places we visit and give back in a meaningful way. We’re excited to bring our curiosity, open-mindedness, and dedication wherever we go, and we look forward to making connections, learning from hosts and fellow travelers, and leaving each place a little better for having been there.

Quelles sont vos compétences ?

I’m a versatile and hands-on person with experience in gardening, from planting and tending to vegetable and flower beds to pruning and seasonal maintenance. I also have a passion for languages and culture, so I enjoy connecting with people from different backgrounds. Through my studies I have also gained experience in social media and translation practices. Aside from these explicit skills, I’m adaptable, hardworking, and always ready to jump in with a positive attitude wherever I can!
