Description

Hi! I’m Eliane, a 35 year old from Lebanon looking for my next adventure.

I’m naturally curious, easygoing, and love discovering new cultures, meeting people, and experiencing different ways of life. I believe the best memories come from sharing meals, working together, and creating genuine connections.

Hospitality has always been a big part of my life. I’ve worked in restaurants, hotels, and as a HORECA sales consultant, but what I enjoy most is making people feel welcome.
One of my favorite experiences was spending four seasons at Arcenciel’s eco-lodge in Lebanon, living and working with volunteers from around the world. That experience, together with my Intensive Bakery Program at Le Cordon Bleu in Istanbul, strengthened my passion for hospitality, food, and bringing people together.

I’m currently taking a break before my next career chapter and want to spend this time doing something meaningful. I’m looking for a place where I can contribute, learn new skills, meet inspiring people, and enjoy a slower pace of life, ideally close to nature or the sea.

I’m adaptable, responsible, and always happy to help whether it’s welcoming guests, working in the kitchen, gardening, organizing spaces, or simply lending an extra hand. For me, Workaway is about becoming part of a community, sharing experiences, and creating lasting memories.

Eliane initially informed us that she would be able to help us for an extended period during October. Based on this commitment, we had to turn down many other volunteers who had applied for the same dates, as we already had Eliane and other volunteers confirmed.

As a result, we experienced an extremely difficult period and significant disruptions to our daily operations.

Throughout her stay, we provided Eliane with all the facilities and conditions we had promised. However, instead of enjoying her experience and the environment, she frequently raised complaints about the other volunteers.

Living in a shared space naturally requires a certain level of flexibility and understanding. When someone cooks in a shared kitchen, some items may be left out or a few dishes may need washing. Similarly, it is perfectly normal for the bathroom floor to be wet after someone has taken a shower. These are ordinary aspects of communal living.

Eliane seemed to expect the same level of order and control in shared spaces as she would in her own private space, which made communal living particularly challenging. She also complained about another volunteer speaking on the phone at a normal volume. However, on several occasions, we noticed that Eliane herself spoke considerably louder on the phone, disturbing other volunteers in the neighboring rooms.

We consistently tried to address her concerns and help resolve the issues she raised. However, we gradually came to realize that the main difficulty was not necessarily with us or the other volunteers, but rather with her expectations of communal living.

We have two rooms available for our volunteers: one with two beds and another with a single bed. We use the single-bed room flexibly depending on our needs. One volunteer was staying in the two-bed room, while Eliane was staying in the single-bed room.

After a long and dry summer, we experienced an exceptionally heavy rainstorm. Since our rooms are made of wood, a small amount of water entered through the edge of the window in the single-bed room. This was an issue we had not noticed during the long summer season. We explained to Eliane that this had happened after an extended period of dry weather and assured her that we would repair the area where the water was entering as soon as the weather became sunny. To ensure her comfort, we also asked her to move to the other room, where the other volunteer was staying. However, she refused to move.

We always provide our volunteers with clean rooms upon arrival. Most volunteers also make an effort to leave their rooms in reasonable condition when departing, either by making their beds or placing their used bedding in the laundry basket. Unfortunately, Eliane did neither.

The following morning, she informed us that she wanted to leave immediately. We accepted her decision and helped her with practical arrangements, including transportation and her bus transfer.

Although Eliane made a sincere effort to complete the tasks assigned to her during her stay, her overall experience with us was unfortunately very negative. Her early departure, after we had relied on her commitment and declined other volunteers, caused considerable disruption to our operations.

This was one of the most challenging and disappointing experiences we have had with a volunteer through Workaway. We believe that communal living requires mutual respect, flexibility, understanding, and a willingness to adapt to shared spaces. Unfortunately, we felt that these expectations were not met during Eliane’s stay.

We hope that future hosts and volunteers can benefit from this experience and that everyone can find a placement that better matches their expectations and approach to communal living.
