Hey! I’m Denis, 26, originally from Moldova but I grew up in Dublin, Ireland.

I’m happiest when I’m outdoors, learning something new, meeting interesting people and getting stuck into whatever needs doing. Over the last couple of years, I’ve cycled around 12,000 km across 20 countries in Europe, including a recent 9,000+ km journey from Normandy to the North Cape in Norway and back - exclusively wild camping or staying with Warmshower hosts.

Bikepacking has taken me to some amazing places and introduced me to loads of different people and ways of life. Along the way, I’ve done several Workaway stays where I’ve helped with beekeeping, permaculture, gardening, looking after sheep, fencing, construction, cooking, bartending, maintenance and general odd jobs. I really enjoy the variety — I’m not afraid of getting my hands dirty, trying something I’ve never done before, or putting in a full day of work when it’s needed.

I’m hoping to keep travelling, learn more practical skills and experience different ways of living. One day, I’d love to start a small semi-off-grid permaculture farm in Ireland with some friends — somewhere people can come to learn practical skills, eat good food and enjoy a slower, more sustainable way of life. So whenever I get the chance to learn something that might help me build towards that dream, I’m all ears!

A little more about me

I’m very into cycling, hiking, camping, climbing and pretty much anything that gets me outside. I love being in nature and I’m happiest with a simple lifestyle. I’m vegetarian, try to live sustainably, don’t drive and generally prefer experiences over things.

I studied Fine Art Media at NCAD in Dublin, so I’m also interested in photography, film, music and design. I enjoy cooking and especially love making vegetarian and vegan food for other people. I’ve also been known to make a pretty good batch of homemade kombucha!

I’m easy-going, curious and independent, but I also really enjoy being part of a team. I’m happy to take instructions, work independently once I know what I’m doing, and I’ll always ask questions if there’s something I don’t know rather than pretending I do.

For me, the best part of Workaway is the exchange — learning from people, contributing something useful, sharing meals and stories, and getting a glimpse into a way of life that’s different from my own.

Quelles sont vos compétences ?

I have a mix of creative, hands-on, and hospitality experience that I'm always looking to build on. I studied Fine Art Media in Dublin and Prague, focusing on photography, print media, internet culture, and aesthetics. I've exhibited work in Dublin, Prague, and Ljubljana, and I also founded and ran an art magazine called Emerge (@emergeart.ie on Instagram), which gave a platform to emerging artists during the COVID lockdowns.

I'm really into cinema and was active in both of my universities' film societies — I even helped run them at NCAD in Dublin and UMPRUM in Prague.

Outside of the creative world, I’ve got solid experience with manual work. My dad ran a small construction and renovation company, so I’ve spent several summers helping him out on projects — most recently we built a sauna in his backyard. I’m comfortable using tools and doing physical work, and I’d love to develop more skills in carpentry and woodwork.

I’ve also worked for several years in hospitality — including bartending at the Guinness Storehouse and Teeling Whiskey Distillery, where I met people from all over the world and developed strong communication and customer service skills. On top of that, I worked front-of-house for two years each at a Thai and a Palestinian restaurant, so I’m used to busy environments and enjoy being part of a team.
