Hello, I'm Claus from northern Germany, 57 years old and still very new to Workaway.
I am in the process of orienting myself towards the third third of my life and trying out new ways of getting to know myself, the world and people in a different way.
At the start of the “orientation phase”, I can only offer limited periods of time (several times 1-2 weeks, April-September). In the future, however, my main job (property maintenance, mainly office work) will move further and further into the background in favor of new horizons, so that longer assignments and longer journeys will also be possible. At the moment I would limit the radius to about 500 km around Bremen.
I love being outdoors, working physically and creating (or removing) something visible. I'm used to getting my hands, clothes and whatever else dirty in the process and don't shy away from really dirty work. As long as I don't fly away, drift away or melt away, the weather doesn't matter and I don't mind getting up early (usually 5:00 am at the moment).
Although I originally learned a versatile trade as a sign and illuminated advertising manufacturer, I would now describe myself as an average DIY enthusiast. No two left hands, but no real expertise either. I would be all the more pleased to learn new things as an “intern” in construction, animal care, agriculture, etc. Just in case it fits somewhere: For some reason I am fascinated by dry stone walls :-) and would love to learn about building them.
I am considered friendly and sociable and am interested in making new contacts with a wide variety of people, but can and would also like to spend part of the day on my own (hiking, reading, writing, meditating ...).
I am traveling in my own camper van (6 m) and would also like to use it as accommodation, especially as I will usually have my (knee-high) animal welfare dog Pauli with me, who is very reserved and insecure towards strangers. He can and prefers to keep to himself. Accordingly, a daily assignment of up to approx. 5 hours, possibly with a walk break, would be ideal. But we can discuss/organize other things.
Despite the motorhome, it should be possible to share use a shower, toilet and if necessary washing machine during the day. Electricity would be good, but not essential.
I am not always a non-smoker, but I can always be considerate of others and their rules and habits.

Hallo, ich bin Claus aus Norddeutschland, 57 Jahre alt und noch ganz frisch bei Workaway.
Ich bin dabei, mich Richtung drittes Lebensdrittel zu orientieren und möglichst neue Wege auszuprobieren, mich, die Welt und Menschen nochmal anders kennenzulernen.
Zum Start in die "Orientierungsphase" kann ich erstmal nur begrenzte Zeiträume (mehrmals 1-2 Wochen, April-September) zur Verfügung stellen. Perspektivisch soll aber mein Hauptberuf (Grundstückspflege, überwiegend Büro) zugunsten neuer Horizonte immer weiter in den Hintergrund rücken, sodass auch längere Einsätze und weitere Anreisen dafür möglich werden. Derzeit würde ich den Umkreis auf ca. 500 Km rund um Bremen eingrenzen.
Ich liebe es, draußen zu sein, körperlich zu arbeiten und etwas Sichtbares zu schaffen (oder auch wegzuschaffen). Ich bin es gewohnt, mir dabei Hände, Klamotten und was auch immer schmutzig zu machen und schrecke auch vor wirklich dreckiger Arbeit nicht zurück. Solange ich nicht wegfliege, wegtreibe oder schmelze, spielt das Wetter keine Rolle und auch frühes Aufstehen (im Moment meist 5:00 Uhr), macht mir nichts aus.
Ich habe zwar ursprünglich als Schilder- und Lichtreklamehersteller ein vielseitiges Handwerk gelernt, aber inzwischen möchte ich mich mal als durchschnittlichen Heimwerker bezeichnen. Keine zwei linken Hände, aber auch keine wirkliche Expertise. Ich würde mich umso mehr freuen, als "Praktikant" neues in Sachen Bauhandwerk, Tierpflege, Landwirtschaft etc. zu lernen. Für den Fall, dass es irgendwo passt: Aus irgendwelchen Gründen bin ich fasziniert von Trockenmauern aus Natursteinen :-) und würde das Bauen gerne mal kennenlernen.
Ich gelte als freundlich und umgänglich und bin an neuen Kontakten zu unterschiedlichsten Menschen interessiert, kann und möchte aber auch einen Teil des Tages gerne für mich sein/mich beschäftigen (wandern, lesen, schreiben, meditieren …).
Ich bin im eigenen Wohnmobil (Kastenwagen, 6 m) unterwegs und möchte den auch als Unterkunft nutzen, zumal ich in der Regel meinen (kniehohen) Tierschutz-Hund Pauli dabei haben werde, der Fremden gegenüber sehr reserviert und unsicher ist. Der kann und mag dann lieber für sich bleiben. Entsprechend wären tägliche Einsatzzeiten bis ca. 5 Stunden, ggf. mit einer Gassipause, ideal. Aber man kann anderes besprechen/organisieren.
Trotz Wohnmobil sollte zumindest tagsüber die Mitbenutzung von Dusche, Toilette und ggf. Waschmaschine möglich sein. Strom wäre gut, aber nicht zwingend.
Ich bin nicht immer Nichtraucher, aber kann immer Rücksicht auf Andere und ihre Regeln und Gewohnheiten nehmen.
Tja, was könnte noch von Interesse/wichtig sein …? Fragt mich gerne, ich freue mich über jede Kontaktaufnahme.
