  • Description

We are a family of 4: Simon, who is German and Bernardita (but everybody calls me Berni) who is Chilean and our two very nice and easy-going kids (born on 2016 and 2020) that enjoy the simple life and appreciate friendly smiling faces.

We love to be in the nature and do outdoor activities and we really love to travel and meet people, sit by the fire (if/when it is possible/aloud) and share stories, culture, habilities and meals.

We love to work with our hands and we have developed different types of craft.

Simon is very good with wood, electrical and mechanical work, he also knows about different construction techniques, as it is his actual job. He has many talents, artistical and practical. He is always learning new methods or techniques.

Bernardita is an agriculturist and teacher and, as hobby, she like to transform natural raw materials into different useful products such cosmetic-hygienic, health care products and everything to do with yarn. She was also Scout during 12 years (from girl-scout 'til scout-leader), so that gave her a full set of "live-&-survive-in-nature" skills.

We like music and instruments, but we don't get to play our instruments as often as we'd like, but we hope this year we will. Even though we are not super fast readers (specially me), we are always reading a book.

    OUR NEXT BIG TRAVEL
We want to make a big trip as a family before the kids go to school, so now is the perfect moment. We love to travel, but we are not typical tourists; when we travel we like to have real local experiences in places that may not be on touristic books and get to know new people, have any kind of exchange and create meaningful memories and friendships. We are new at Workaway, but we have done some similar exchange before, just not through this platform. From long weekends to several weeks vacations, we have stayed in tents or House-trailer/Tinny Houses, garages, transporter vans, teepees, etc. , and helped the owners building or repairing a house or helping with the garden and vegetable gardens or any other project needing some attention.

Since we travel with our kids, we look mostly for projects with kids, the more the merrier!

Plus de détails sur les langues qui m'intéressent
Berni can teach you Spanish, and some English and German for beginners, would love to improve the little French she knows and learn Italian and Portuguese (she can understand some, if slow spoken) . SIMON: it would be super for him to learn Spanish, he understand a little bit, like everyday phrases. But one of the goals is for him to really be able to talk. We are open to learn at least some basics from the official languages from our hosts.

  • Quelles sont vos compétences ?

    BERNI:
I am agriculturist, teacher and craftswoman.
As an agriculturist and gardener I have experience with flowers and organic farming (growing vegetables and herbs), and worked every step of the way from planing to harvesting. I also helped keeping the animals, so I've move livestock from different meadows, feed them in winter, clean stables, milk cows, shear sheep, slaughter and butcher sheep, geese and chicken. Slaughter is not a favourite activity, but it needed to be done and nobody else could/wanted. Today I would rather avoid it.
I also worked growing ornamental plants.

As a teacher I have experience with elementary and highschoolers. I have teach Maths, Biology, Tech. ed., (basic) English as second language and Spanish (as second language and for native speakers). My classes are didactic and playful, but without leaving a side the contents and goals of the units.

As a craftswoman, beside the production of natural cosmetics, I also work with fleece and wool and other yarns. I have experience sheep shearing, spinning and dying the wool, and making wearables with different techniques (knitting, crochet, loom, etc). I also do needlework and I know how to use a sewing machine too, i am not an expert, but I do very functional things whit it. I also like painting and have experience painting walls, both, just one color and artistic wall painting.

I love to do DIY activities for and with kids all ages (1 to 99 years old)

In my own garden I grow mostly herbs and flowers and some vegetables that I use for natural cosmetics, tee and spices, dying wool, DIY Workshop, etc.

SIMON: I'm a versatile craftsman, loving to work with natural materials. Collecting skills from mechanics, locksmith and carpenters, I can repair, restore and build machines and construction of wood or steel.

Growing up in the ruins of germane socialism with the workshop of my father, I know how to keep things running with what you can get.
I restored my little motorcycle and brought several old cars and a truck back on the Street. There were always things to repair on the way but its not my dedication anymore.

Since I started building flutes from branches many years ago, I develop skills building with wood and making finish with linseed oil paint, natural resin and Pigments. Now I work with carpenters to restore a industrial ruin making it a social Place. We try to avoid any plastics and chemicals.
So wood is my favourite material to work with.
For special tasks I could also bring some tools if needed. Let me know.

the only thing I'm officially trained in, is physiotherapy. It was the most complex natural material I was working with. But I'm not doing it professional anymore. Non the less I can help and share knowledge if needed.

So its mostly about restoring function or health. But I also like to build things both beautiful AND practical. Inspired by the natural spirit of things.

  • Autres infos...

We also like to ride bicycles, we use them as our preferred transport in the city, we love to play with the kids and we also have some board games, we have many hobbies but I told you the favourites ones, that we do more often and that bring useful or interesting skills to share.

We both play guitar, we do well with percussion instruments, and Simon play different kinds of flute. We both sing, but nothing professional, just to have fun and enjoy.

Berni and Baltasar (our youngest child) love to dance different rhythms as soon as music is playing (or even without music) and Simon and Aaron (our oldest) dance too, although they are a little shy in this matter and need some time to warm up.

We try to seek happiness and joy in every little detail of life and have an optimistic point of view.

We also like insects and spiders, frogs and reptiles. But we love every animal in this world!
