Kia ora !
We are Solène & Antoine, a French couple looking for Workaway experiences in beautiful New Zealand !

After several years between studies and various jobs, we felt the need to live in a resourceful environment and more in accordance with our values. We spent these last 2 years as seasonal workers in the French and Swiss Alps. We enjoyed this experience but now we want to look even further !

Why New Zealand ?
Solène : I am attracted to Oceania for many years : surf beaches, wild life, ancestral cultures... I miss the ocean and I’m not ready to face the winter yet… ! I also love mountains and New Zealand offers all of this !
Antoine : I have a special link with New Zealand as an absolute fan of the Lord of the Rings. I can’t wait to see the landscapes of the films with my own eyes. Some of my friends have already travelled to NZ and what they told me makes me so impatient !

Let's introduce ourselves so you can know about us 😉

Here is Solène, a 25-year-old adventurous woman. I grew up in the countryside northern from Paris. I love outdoor activities : camping, hiking, climbing, water and winter sports, … I have practiced various sports especially athletics for 10 years, in competition, and horse riding for over 7 years. Nowadays, I mostly hike, run and climb. I’m very excited to surf again !
I have studied dietetics for 3 years and worked few months as a dietitian in a hospital. I have also work experiences with children and in hospitality and catering.
To be happy, I need to be surrounded by nature, kind people and to be active physically and mentally. I am particularly interested in human sciences as psychology, philosophy and anthropology, health/wellness, social justice, sustainability. I really want to travel all around our beautiful planet and meet people to learn about their cultures and lifestyles.
I describe myself as a pleasant, empathic and helpful person. I’m curious and openminded.

The second half of this duo is me, Antoine, I’m 32 years old and I grew up in the Atlantic coast countryside, near Nantes.
I have practiced handball for 13 years with my childhood friends and when I was not playing handball, I was reading and listening to music. As an adult, I still find happiness and peace in those two last activities daily and I enjoy climbing, hiking and running. Indeed, I have been raised with the taste of the mountains : camping, hiking and other outdoor activities.
I spent 6 years of my life studying biology, ecology and environmental toxicology at the university.
After my studies, I first experienced a 6 months job in an ecology laboratory in Lyon. Then, I practiced different jobs around France : I worked in bar/restaurant places, and with teenagers in a high school or during holiday camps. Those experiences were all enriching and enhanced my relationship to others.
I can’t feel better than when I satisfy my curiosity, that’s why I continue to learn about science, history, cinema… and other topics ! I think I’m a kind and sensitive person 😊

We are over-motivated to find hosts and help them ! Taking part of the Workaway experience would be a great way to travel and improve our english to become fluent speakers (why not?) by living in total immersion. It could also be the opportunity to learn about the culture and the history of the country and meet people.

Quelles sont vos compétences ?

We both have a good physical condition. We are able to accomplish many different DIY tasks.
- Abilities : gardening, home improvement, ...
- Experience with children (babysitting and children's entertainment) : we both have the french Certificate of competency for the duties of facilitator (BAFA) and experiences as facilitators in holiday camps for children from 4 to 17
- Experience with horses : 7 years riding in a club + taking care of horses in my free time (Solène)
