We are a couple, Amy and Max, from South West England who have been together for nearly 6 years and were married in August 2024.

Before we decided to take a year or so out of our careers for some adventures, Amy was a Project Manager working on at risk heritage buildings and Max had just completed his PGCE to become a Spanish and French teacher. We like to think we are energetic and adventerous, and the plan for the year is to make room in our lives to feed that side of ourselves! Busy work / study lives and a hectic (but lovely) social calendar sometimes gets in the way of it all and we are excited for a year of simpler life full of adventure, and other kinds of hardwork to get stuck into.

We are the first to admit we're a little weird but in a good way, and think that all of the best people tend to be a bit weird too. We love being outdoors, exploring both natural and historic places but are equally happy snuggled up with a good book, film or (often quietly competetive) boardgame. We would describe ourselves as nerdy in different ways, Max enjoys marvel, video games, D&D and is fascinated by language, Amy is a fairly conventional history nerd who also loves to listen to podcasts to fill her head with lots of random information, though when reading a book its always fantasy as a first choice. We love to laugh and hope that we have decent senses of humour! We both love music and have a constant backing track to our lives, Max loves a wide range of music styles and has loved broadening Amy's musical genre horizons!

We are up for a challenge and are up for trying something new, we are (generally) quick to pick new things up. We love meeting new people, being immersed in different cultures and helping people out, which is why we cannot wait to get started on our workaway journey!

Max is trained to be a languages teacher and Amy has always loved languages though has never managed to move past much more than the basics of French, Italian and Spanish. We are interested in improving the languages we already have or learning entirely new ones!

Quelles sont vos compétences ?

Amy - My most recent career role was in Project Management for Somerset Council and therefore I have good organisational, admin and problem solving skills. My degree at the University of Warwick was in History with some Italian as I lived in Venice for part of my 3rd year. Throughout my career so far I have learnt a lot about historic buildings, heritage conservation and listed building legislation, though i'm certainly not an expert I have worked with lots of experts in the field! It is also not that long since I worked in the hospitality industry (cafes and pubs) and charity sector (paid and volunteering roles at National Trust). I have always loved customer facing roles and the oppourtunity it gives you to make someone's day with exceptional service.

Max - Max is competed his formal PGCE qualification to teach Spanish and French in June 2024, however he already has a lot of teaching experience under his belt. He has also completed his TEFL (Teaching English as a Foreign Language) qualification and spent 6 months on an internship teaching at a school near Barcelona. Since then he has worked as a teacher for summer camps for European children visiting England, worked for a health watchdog charity running a project with young people and as a cover supervisor as secondary schools. Max has also worked in the hospitality industry in pubs and resturants which he enjoyed very much, he has also worked for a professional cleaning company. Max's degree was in Sociology and Criminology.

Both - We are both good home cooks who enjoy experimenting with new recipes and Amy loves to bake sweet treats. We take pride in our little home and therefore we've not lost our cleaning skills! We have also house sat and minded dogs, cats and hens a number of times over the last few years. We have a little experience of looking after a veg garden whist family is away but would need some instructions to make sure we got it right for you!

Last autumn (2024) we had our first amazing workaway experience in Scotland working in a fabulous tearoom where we had a range of tasks including cleaning, food preparation, customer service & animal care. We were also left in charge a few times for up to a week whilst the owners were away.

I think we've already bombarded you with information! A few things we've not mentioned though...

- We will always have an array of small games with us, we would love to share them with you and learn any of yours!
- Amy grew up dancing and would welcome an oppourtunity to get involved in some kind of exercise surrounding dance, or teach you a few moves!
- Max can play the guitar and used to be in a band so will enjoy any chance to play!
