Description

Hello! We’re Matt & Alice. We’re a British/South African couple currently travelling in South and Central America. ‘Home’ is definitely a moveable thing for both of us, between us we’ve lived in the UAE, South Africa, UK, Botswana, Cambodia and most recently Vancouver, Canada.

Together we enjoy filling our lives with the ‘soul nourishing’ stuff- good food, hiking in beautiful nature, exploring new places, singing and playing music together and connecting with like minded people.

Alice has worked in the NGO and charity sector and social research and Matt has worked in hospitality and conservation in game reserves in Southern Africa, is a yoga teacher and most recently works in early child development for a remote tech startup.

Some more details about us individually :)

Alice:

I’ve always found it hard to pin down just a few interests- and that’s what brings me happiness- variety! Things that make me quite happy: hiking in big mountains, cats (enough said), enjoying and cooking food, singing, painting and drawing, collaborating on creative projects with new people, sitting with my coffee in the morning listening to the sounds of nature, a cold glass of wine and good conversation. And more recently learning how to surf and speak Spanish.

I have worked for NGOs and charities across the world and most recently in Canada, helping to run the worlds first unconditional cash transfer project with people in the community experiencing homelessness. I have varied experience in the charity sector including grant writing and fundraising, communications, community and partnership development and qualitative monitoring and evaluation. The work I’ve done has challenged me constantly, taught me constantly and connected me with incredible inspiring people.

I’m currently on a sabbatical travelling in South and Central America and looking for new learning experiences and connections in anything and everything!

Matt:

I definitely don't know everything, but I absolutely believe I can learn whatever it is! I usually throw myself into something to learn quickly and effectively. I love to take on new skills, solve problems and adapt to different situations. I currently work remotely with a tech company in early childhood development.

Previously, I have worked in hospitality management and conservation within safari lodges in Southern Africa. I’ve always had a natural curiosity, love and care toward the natural world and this only grew during my time working on game reserves. My roles and work have been challenging and stimulating (mentally and physically) - often in remote areas with small teams who needed to pull together.

One of the commonalities I've enjoyed in each of these roles has been the people I've met and connected with - it has been such a joy to make friends all over the world and work on projects and goals together. I love to sing, play guitar, practise jiu jitsu, dance and explore whichever subject has taken my interest most recently :)

Quelles sont vos compétences ?

Alice:
- NGO and charity management and administration: fundraising, grantwriting, communications, program management, partnership development, volunteer management, project management.
-Creativity: painting, drawing, or any creative brain storming or idea generation.
-People skills: I enjoy connecting with people, I have experience working in front facing hospitality roles.
-Adaptability: I have worked in several small organizations in the UK, Cambodia and Canada, taking on lots of different roles at once and being very comfortable with uncertainty, when things don’t go to plan and overcoming challenges with creativity and positivity!

Matt:
- Hospitality Management: general manager working in high-end boutique properties, managing various departments/teams, financial oversight, marketing, communication, human resources, overseeing/maintaining/improving on quality standards
- Great communication skills
- Good basic DIY skills and quick to learn/research/solve larger problems
