Hi there! My name is Alli and after just graduating from college I am so excited to start exploring the world and traveling. As a style of travel, Workaway apeals to me because I really love getting a glimpse into what connects people to their places. I believe that community is one of the most fulfilling aspects of being a human and I am endlessly fascinated by what factors help to build and sustain strong communities where every person in the community feels seen, heard, and valued for the unique gifts they have to offer. I find deep peace, connection, and fulfillment when I am immersed in the natural world and I love to connect with others through a shared sense of awe and wonder.

Quelles sont vos compétences ?

I have worked many jobs in a number of different fields that have given me quite a wide range of skills. For much of my life I have worked with children and families in some capacity. Some of these experiences have included; teaching and tutoring positions in both preschools and grade schools, working as a live-in nanny to help care for a newborn, teaching forest preschool, and countless short and long-term childcare positions with children ranging in age from 0-18. Through these experiences I have gained a strong understanding of child development and have refined my own style of working with children, I feel honored to be invited into the lives of families I have worked and to support them in raising their children.

I have also spent quite a bit of time working on farms, gardens, and in other outdoor spaces. This past summer I worked as the manager for a small urban organic farm and got to help cultivate that space all the way from spring planting to late-summer harvest. I spent a number of my teenage years working at a barn that was home to ten horses and, while it has been many years, it is a goal of mine to get back to spending time with horses soon.

Finally, I have worked in a wide range of food service positions. I spent three years working as a professional baker at a small French bakery, a job that has translated into quite a prolific baking hobby (and one I would love to share with Work away hosts!) . I have also spent the past eight months working in a wine tasting room. While I am still learning about the world of wine, I have really enjoyed getting to learn more and I would love to continue learning.

In addition to the interests listed above, I also have a number of small hobbies and interests that fill my days. I am a very crafty person, I am known to always have pair of knitting needles in my hands to keep be busy and I would love to teach other how to knit! I also have dabbled in crochet, wheel-thrown pottery, jewelry making, and many other crafty pursuits. I really love making things with my hands and I would LOVE to continue learning different types of crafts and skills. I spend a lot of time outside. I find a deep sense of meaning in the natural world and enjoy immersing myself in wild spaces through hiking, rock climbing, camping, boating, and also just sitting or laying under a tree in a park. I am always trying to become a more prolific reader and am always open to book or poetry suggestions. Lastly, I have spent a lot of time working in environmental and social-justice spaces. I really enjoy getting to have respectful and thought-provoking conversations with others about ourselves, our communities, and how we can treat each other and the planet better.
