Sabbatical as a family of four

Description

Hi there! We are a family of four from Munich, Germany. We love spending time with our all-time favorites: friends or nature — or, even better, friends in nature. Hiking, staying active, breathing fresh air, and enjoying scenic views are some of our favorite activities. We cherish the feeling of being tired after a productive day.

Our lives are joyfully filled with our two wonderful sons: Jonathan, who is energetic and open-minded (born in August 2020), and Leander, a super sweet and friendly toddler (born in January 2024). We, the parents, are Susa (born in 1987) and Niklas (born in 1988). Susa has worked as an audiobook editor for years and is currently on parental leave, planning a career shift that has more social impact. Her experience as a hospice caregiver has been meaningful and aligns with her empathetic nature. Niklas is an electrical engineer with a knack for crafts and a passion for sports. He is reliable and persistent in solving problems and has experience with a broad set of hands-on maintenance work and repairs.

We live consciously, do not own a car, refrain from eating meat and fish, prefer second-hand items, and try to minimize waste. In short, we care about the future of our children and our planet.

Life in the city is busy, and time flies by quickly. Therefore, we've decided to take a sabbatical. From February to July ‘25, we’ll dedicate our time to new experiences: spending entire days together as a family, exploring new countries, learning about different cultures, trying out other ways of life, and getting inspired by a closer connection to nature.

This will be our first workaway experience, and we bring team spirit, adaptability, and a love of learning. We are planners and doers, open to all tasks around the house and yard, and experienced in childcare, housekeeping, and meal preparation. Although we've only picked berries or apples for our own consumption, show us how it’s done, and we’ll help harvest whole fields with you! As we don't have a campervan, we would appreciate a room of our own and running water. We hope that workaway will offer us the opportunity to try out life in a community, which is why we would love to visit and support a family with children. We believe in the potential of communities — it takes a village to raise a child — as opposed to today’s nuclear family. Maybe this special time abroad will inspire us to realize our dream of a social housing project afterward. Every journey begins with the first step.

Quelles sont vos compétences ?

We are a versatile team with a wide range of skills and experiences. Susa has extensive knowledge of vegan nutrition and loves creating delicious plant-based meals. She also has a background as a professional editor and excels at writing clear, engaging texts. With a creative mindset, she brings fresh ideas to any project. Additionally, she is passionate about needs-based parenting and has a lot of experience supporting children in a nurturing and empathetic way.

Niklas, on the other hand, is skilled in all things practical and hands-on. He enjoys tackling projects from start to finish, whether it’s building, repairing, or creating something new. He approaches tasks with a clear plan and works efficiently to see them through to completion. Together, we combine our strengths to contribute in meaningful and diverse ways.

In our free time, we love playing board games and going for a swim. Susa enjoys practicing yoga and diving into a good book, while Niklas is an avid runner and passionate snowboarder. We both share a love for delicious meals.
