WE ARE RECRUITING JOINERS, CARPENTERS AND EXPERIENCED CHEFS AND BARTENDERS!
We are an organic market garden and restaurant at the foot of the Pentland Hills on the outskirts of Edinburgh. The founding ethos is rooted in the reinvigoration of forgotten rural knowledge and driven by a necessity to endorse sustainable and progressive farming methods. Workawayers will have the opportunity to help out with a whole range of activities on the farm, from seeding to harvesting, and learn all about regenerative agricultural techniques along the way. The vegetable garden is scaling quickly over the next year, with fresh produce being delivered weekly to our Veg Club members across Edinburgh and wholesaling across Scotland. We also have a herd of 80 rare breed pigs that graze regeneratively on cover crops as well as about 250 Shetland ewes and 40 Highland cross kettle.
The company was established in 2017 and has a seasonal restaurant on site, with vegetables sourced directly from the farm. We had our first Winter Series back open last year showcasing the very best of our produce after being closed over the 18 months due to covid. The next Summer Series is about to be launched in June. We offer the living wage payment for all hours for those working here.
We do a fair bit of joinery and maintenance work on the farms building so would also be interested in hosting people with these skills.
Workaways are given their own room in the farm hostel and we provide 3 meals a day 7 days a week – using all organic produce! We're a pretty sociable bunch and will generally eat lunches together during the week.

Workaways will get to learn about and contribute to every part of sustainable food production, from seeding, preparing beds and transplanting to harvesting and packing. There will also be the opportunity to go on educational farm tours with the farm manager to learn more about regenerative agriculture if you would like to. This includes a range of different factors, from farming to increase biodiversity and learning how to improve soil quality.

We are looking for a workaway who can work both independently and as part of a team. A lot of the farm work can be physical, so a moderate level of fitness will be required. We are also looking for someone who is easy going and willing to give new things a try.

Workaways all have their own separate bedroom or caravan and a shared bathroom in the farm hostel. There is a shared kitchen set up for the Workaways to cook their own meals with the food provided (or of course their own if they choose) and a communal living room/ dining room with comfy sofas and a woodburning stove.
The farm is only a 45 minute bus ride into the center of Edinburgh, and generally someone on the farm will be able to drop and pick you up from the bus stop. The local village Balerno has a small-scale grocery store.
We are located at the foot of the beautiful Pentland hills, near a number of scenic reservoirs with lots of well sign posted walking routes with views of Edinburgh.
