Hi, we are Nathalie and Martijn and have 2 little girls. Alexis is an energetic 3 year old and Cassidy who is a cheeky 8 months old. And we have 2 little guinea pigs Almond and Pistache, that live outside. Originally we are from the Netherlands, we moved to New Zealand 10 years ago and settled in Southland. We live in a old wooden villa in a sleepy town Otautau in Southland, NZ. We are slowly doing up the house and the gardens. We have berry bushes and fruit-trees that we hope will give us some fruit this year. The house we are currently stripping and painting. We also are building a greenhouse for nice veggies. This was actually last years project, but miss Cassidy got in the way :-). The house we are stripping and painting, we have already completed 2 side, so only 2 and a bit to go. Almost half way, yeah! Nathalie volunteers at many community groups, like the toy library, playcentre and the plunket.

This project could involve children. For more information see our guidelines and tips here.
Volunteers will love the bushlike environment but with facilities of Otautau at hand. Kereru's (native woodpigeons) and other birds are abundant in the trees surrounding our home.
We are looking for a couple of helpers to help us with the garden and the house. The garden needs constant weeding of course, but also the berries needs to be picked, a footpath needs to be laid, stones and firewood needs to be tidied up. The house needs painting and gap filling and if the volunteers are a bit handy they can help putting the deck on the porch too. And if you like kids, there are 2 around who would love some attention. We hope volunteers are a bit flexible with work. There is plenty to do around the place that's for sure but with 2 little kids it is hard to get round to most of it.

We don't have a spare room as such. Volunteers are welcome to stay in their own car/van and use the shower, toilet, lounge, internet etc. We do have a big tent if volunteers are more comfy in that.
Otautau although small, has all you need, a real supermarket, a doctors office, a toylibrary, a gas station and some extra shops. There is also a nice heated swimming pool, nice walks around and interesting places to visit. Riverton is only a 20 minute drive away and Invercargill 30 minutes away for instance. Also easy access to Te Anau (about 1 hour away), the gateway to Milford Sound and Queenstown is 2 hours away.
