  We are a Samoan family and have taken over the responsibility of managing the resort on the village's coastal land situated on the south-west of the island of Upolu. We have been running for about 3 years with the help of 15 local workers (housekeeping, kitchen, reception, stock management, ...) from the village next door, Salamumu. The property has an idyllic beach incorporating a lava flow creating small islands. The coral speckled water sparkles in different hues of blue. As well as giving the resort a facelift, we have several exciting projects on the go. We are creating a marine protected area in the lagoon in front of the resort by having the youth of the area work together to plant new coral. We have the longest lava tube in Samoa in our backyard and we are wanting to open this up for public visits. We are working with the youth of the village to develop a cultural performance. When you come to stay with our family and our local staff, you will have your own bungalow or fale between two of you. You may be asked to share your enthusiasm and help out in any of these areas.
  
  We are across the island from its capital Apia (about 1 hour drive), but we travel there almost on a daily basis so you can visit town and other tourist destinations easily. There are lots of other things to do in our area such as biking, hiking, surfing, swimming, fishing, snorkeling and exploring.
  
  You would be welcomed into our family so you could share the Samoan culture and way of life.

  Travelers will learn the beauty of the Samoan extended family, dances and songs. You might like to learn some of our language. You will be able to enjoy the beauty of our island home through exploration and know that you are helping to develop an eco-friendly tourist destination. You will be a part of the whole village and learn the way a village functions with each family having a matai, (chief). You will learn new skills as you live among us.

  Aide

  The main tasks/responsibilities required for volunteers are:
  
  1. Assisting our local workers with the welcoming of our guests and making sure everything is ready for their arrival
  2. Helping with reception, entering and managing bookings and reservations, pick-ups, ...
  3. Assuring a good communication and translation between international guests and local workers
  4. Helping with the development of the resort by sharing ideas of improvements, discussions, ...
  5. Bar keeping
  
  Volunteering hours are worked out between volunteers. The current system is that each couple volunteers 2 days (about 5 hours per day) on and then gets 2 days off. However this can be changed if all volunteers are happy.
  
  Due to the learning curve and also nature of the projects, we prefer those able to commit to two months or more at a time.
  
  Additional projects you may be able to help with in the future:
  
  - Helping to refurbish the resort - painting, landscaping, repairs etc.
  - Assist with developing the lava tube site for visitors
  - Assist with the marine protected area
  - Assist with the youth of the area to develop a performance, E.g. prepare sound and lighting features
  - Any bicycle mechanic knowledge or experiance to service our rental bikes
  - Helping us start our vegetable/herb garden
  *️️️️️️️️️️️️️️️If you have any accounting/ banking skills/ experience we would be very interested in hearing from you.
  
  All of the buildings are in need of a face lift so anything from a bit of simple carpentry under the supervision of a professional to adding paint may be required. If you are good at sewing, we have curtains and furnishings to be made. We would appreciate assistance in developing a tasty menu for our restaurant and would like you to exchange any cooking skills. We may need you to help us put coral in place for our coral garden. If you have an archaeological or geological background, you might be able to help us write our story for the lava tube. If you have any experience with sound and lighting equipment, we would appreciate assistance with our youth group. We are hoping that you can give us ideas to help make our projects a success. We hope that you come and have a wonderful experience with us.

  Hébergement

  There are several choices for accommodation. You have the option of sleeping in an Traditional Samoan fale close to the beach or share a small bungalow if there is more than one of you visiting at one time.
  The bathroom is external and shared.
  
  Food for volunteers:
  - breakfast is a buffet
  - pick lunch from our lunch menu
  - dinner is a buffet
  
  Dinner usually includes fish and meat, but if you are vegetarian, you should be fine, as there are also veggie options on both the buffet and the lunch menu.
  
  Internet is limited, is better to buy a local sim card at the airport or in Apia.

  In your free time you can enjoy our beautiful private beach. We have snorkeling gear, kayaks, bikes and surf boards that you are welcome to use. We also offer tours for our guests that you can join at a discounted price. Or you can rent a car or scooter in Apia. There are also buses running once you hit the main road. When you arrive we will pick you up at the airport.
  
  There is snorkeling, swimming, kayaking, surfing, hiking, diving and exploring available near by or at our beach. There is a lot of natural beauty to explore in Samoa.
  
  American Samoa is a boat ride or short plane ride away and you can take a ferry to the island of Savai'i.
