Description
Hi! We are Ana Lorena and Tania from Mexico. We are 2 best friends who love to travel the world. Bringing together our passion for travel and adventure, we decided to open a beachside hostel. It is our wish to share our love of Cancun and Mexico with guest from all parts of the world.
With this success, we continued our expansion and opened a separate location in the heart of downtown.
Each of our properties, offer a boutique style setting, with dorms limited to 4-7 persons per room. Guest can interact in our common areas, shared kitchen and large outdoor space.
Volunteers play an important role in creating a welcoming and friendly atmosphere. You would help us with reception, light maintenance, errands and most importantly engaging with our guest.
We are also looking for artists to paint our walls with murals.

I worked 1 1/2 weeks in the Hostel.
It is located in downtown Cancun. 5 min walking to Walmart, 10 minutes walking to the Las Palapas Park where you have a lot of street food.

Para comenzar, planeaba quedarme un mes y terminé quedandome tres. Ana y Tania siempre están al pendiente de lo que llegues a necesitar, el trabajo no es pesado pero si estás acostumbrado a no hacer nada puede que te parezca pesado. Es importante tener en cuenta que es un voluntariado y no estás de vacaciones, vas a ayudar. Estuve durante… read more periodos de temporada baja y alta, obviamente cuando la temporada es alta vas a tener más trabajo por hacer pero personalmente no me pareció demasiado, ya que el hostal de la playa tiene capacidad para máximo 20 personas. Es sencillo: atender recepción, interactuar con huéspedes y ofrecer tours (poner desayuno y cambiar camas solo en el turno de la mañana). Yo me sentí muy cómoda estando ahí, al inicio me pareció un poco estresante porque no había hecho recepción en un hostal y no sabía utilizar el sistema pero conforme pasaron los días todo mejoró bastante, es cuestión de practicar y ser proactivo. La verdad es que ellas siempre están ocupadas y entiendo por qué a veces no llegan a explicar todo pero a pesar de eso siempre están al pendiente de tus dudas, entonces no me puedo quejar, solo es cuestión de preguntar y ellas estarán ahí para resolverlo. Nunca te van a dejar con la duda/problema sin resolver.
Personalmente aprendí no solo cómo hacer este trabajo, también aprendí sobre mí misma, ahora soy mucho más relajada, paciente y tolerante; conocí muchas personas de diferentes países, culturas y personalidades, lo cual enriqueció considerablemente mi manera de pensar y actuar. Por cual creo que lo que recibes a cambio de realizar éstas actividades vale la pena. Definitivamente voy a extrañar este lugar y lo recomiendo totalmente. ¡Les deseo lo mejor chicas! ¡Gracias por todo!

First of all, I planned to stay here only for one month but I decided to stay longer (3 months). Ana and Tania are always aware of your necessities, your duties aren't hard but if you are used to do nothing or you're a lazy person, you might thing it's too much. It is important to consider that you're in a volunteering and not on vacation, you'll be here to help.
I was here during high and low season, obviously when it's high season you'll have more things to do but personally I don't think it's that much, since the hostel is for 20 guests. Your tasks are simple: reception, interact with guests and offer tours (set breakfast and change beds only in the morning shift). I felt very comfortable here, at the beginning I was a little stressed because I didn't know how to use the software for reservations but during the days I learned how to use it, so it's all about practicing and being proactive. The truth is they're always busy and I understand why sometimes they don't explain everything however they are always aware of your questions. Personally I learnt not only how to do this job but also about myself, now I'm more relaxed, patient and tolerant, I met a lot of people from different countries, cultures and personalities who helped me to rearrange my way of thinking and acting. That's why I think what you get in exchange for doing these tasks is worth it. I'll miss this place for sure and I totally recommend it. I wish you the best girls! Thanks for everything!

They always care about my satisfaction in Cancun, asked my feeling and hear my voices when I felt uncomfortable things... anyways they are supportive and flexible in many ways.
Sometimes we had a barbeque party on the rooftop, they brought me to cool bar and club and when I got weird allergy they brought me to see a doctor haha Everything was perfect but they were busy so it is sad that I couldn't spend more time with them.
I can say for sure that they are hard worker, open minded, flexible, supportive and super nice! and their 4 cutie doggies are so adorable haha I miss them as well!

Let's start with describing about work in general.
General work : I used to work for 5 1/2 hours a day and got day off 1 day a week. But it changed to 6 1/2 hours a day after about 1 month later. It wasn't very short time for workawayer but I could understand in my position cuz the hostel is small so they probably hard to give a bed to more than 2 workawayers and there were not that hard work in working time.(Unless your workmate is not too lazy). I prepared breakfast for guests from 9 am to 11 am, run the washing machine to wash bed sheets(towels as well) and change bed sheets, threw away garbage and reception work. When I sold tour they gave me some money for commission :)) Sometimes you need to help them longer than you recommended but if you really care this hostel like yours then it is not big issues.

Accomodation : I used to use Girl's dorm. Beds were so comfy, wash room was big enough for me and there were quite big space to put my belongings in the room. I used room with guests and it was so great cuz I could make lots of great friends and sometime I used to hang out with them. I made amazing friends at the hostel. It is good to make good friends there.

Food : They gave me some money for food for a week. I could buy some food what I want to eat at super market. You can cook yourself in the kitchen. Sometimes the money were not enough for me but it was okay cuz my budget was not too tight.

Others : hostel beach located secured area, quite and peaceful, close to the small local public beach and convenience store also there has some good restaurants. Some people don't like this location cuz they should had to go downtown to buy groceries and any other stuffs. But it takes only 10-15 min by bus or taxi from hostel to downtown. It was not a big deal with me.
The biggest reason that I wanted to stay at beach was chill on the rooftop bar. Cool breeze was blowing every day and night, beautiful sunrise, sunset view and adorable decoration with hammocks haha

Just believe Ana&Tania haha. They will help you a lot but sometimes you have to remind them what you commented them cuz they have lots of busy works so they often forget what they heard :)))))
