  Description

  My husband and I are retired and live on the beautiful island of Gambier in the Howe Sound, less than an hour's boat ride from Vancouver. The natural rugged beauty of rocky beaches, forests and mountains provide a peaceful life here. Hiking and swimming plus kayaking are some popular activities. The island is a bit remote as it is only accessible by boat. There is a foot ferry that runs regularly to Langdale (10 min. ride) where one can board the large ferry back to Vancouver or board a bus to go into Gibsons, our nearest town.
  We have two golden doodle dogs, two cats and a handful of chickens. Additionally, we have vegetable and flower gardens plus a few fruit trees that we could use some help in maintaining.
  Having traveled a bit internationally and hosting students from other countries a few times, we love to meet people from around the globe and hear what life is like in their corner of the world.
  We enjoy playing cards and board games and we also like cooking and crafting! We are currently learning about finding, or growing and harvesting natural healing plants. We are excited to find an abundance of plants here on our island and we are learning their purpose.

  We have a very friendly community and know most of the islanders and their families, There are always people out and about. We also have a community centre that holds events throughout the year.
  We are part of our local Saturday Farmers Market and we sell our baking and crafts.

  Aide

  We are looking for someone who also likes to learn and share. Someone in good physical condition who likes gardening and making things so they can help with yard tasks, weeding and caring for the gardens, trimming, cutting firewood, etc. Also, we hope our guests will like animals as daily dog walking along our lovely gravel roads and paths will be helpful. We will also appreciate help with outdoor maintenance like window washing and gutter cleaning, etc.
  Helping with the small flock of chickens and helping lift heavy sacks of chicken feed occasionally will be needed as will coming into town with us and assisting with grocery shopping once a week.
  We will work along side our guests or be close at hand,

  We have a large home with a walk out basement suite and lots of windows, (shared entrance) includes: private bath, a queen size bed, a single bed plus sectional couch and table with chairs and TV.
  For meals, we will have breakfast and lunch food available for self serve and we will enjoy our evening meals together.
  Our home is situated across the road from Gambier Harbour dock and beach and about a 15 minute walk to the foot ferry.

  We are a smoke free home and enjoy clean living and eating healthy food that we like growing and make ourselves.
  
  Our house rules are pretty simple...Treat others respectfully and please, No smoking or drugs. Only occasional alcohol, please.
  
  This is a great place for people who enjoy the outdoors and activities like hiking, swimming, kayaking, etc. There are lots of friendly folks here and a few other Workaway hosts too.
