  Description

  We are a family living close to the land on 9 acres nestled between a wild and active marsh, and forest lands. As your host, I value healthy and whole foods eating, both sourced from our garden and other local vendors. I am an avid gardener of food, herbal medicine, and flowers. There is a large sub-tropical greenhouse where a combination of citrus and tropical trees along with tomatoes and other hot house vegetables are grown. We are conveniently located a 7 minute drive to the heart of town, and surrounded by a network of trails. Altogether it is myself and my husband, a middle aged working couple, 3 boys aged 7, 16, and 18, and our two cats and one dog. The sleeping area for guests is a beautiful bell tent with a futon bed, which overlooks our pond and backs on to the marsh, where you will wake up to the bird song each morning.

  Many meals are enjoyed together, where we can share about the local events and activities that take place to be explored during time off. We have ebikes that take 15 minutes to ride into the heart of downtown Courtenay, where many local art, music, and community events take place. The colourful weekly farmers market is also close by. My partner and I are herbalists, and have a deep understanding of plant medicine. We both enthusiastically share about our cultivated and wild plant knowledge- from growing practices, harvesting, and processing techniques. Plant medicine making will sometimes be part of the scope of work. We are a well traveled family and enjoy learning from others about cultural ways of life, and find that hosting others is the next best thing to travel itself!

  Aide

  Most of the assistance we need involves tending to the gardens including weeding, watering, planting, harvesting, garden bed and pathway maintenance. We also have ongoing special projects that come up that require help with light landscape construction work and building (such as raised beds, sheds, etc.).
  Much of the work will be done independently and at times we will be participating- depending on the task and the juggle of our responsibilities to our jobs.

  I am fluent in Spanish, but the rest of my family is not, however they are very interested in learning and having the opportunity to practice.

  Hébergement

  Breakfast is self served, and if I am not available for lunch or dinner then a full meal will be prepared ahead of time that will be easy to warm if needed, although I will usually be around for lunch and dinner.
  Sleeping accomodations is a double futon bed with bedding in a bell tent on a platform overlooking our pond, about 20 meters from the house. The bathroom is located in the house with a direct entrance from outside.

  Our family follows a consistent rhythm of sleeping and waking with the sun, generally sleeping by 10 and awake by 7, give or take. We are a vibrant and bustling group, and there is a healthy ebb and flow of connection and independence in our household. We do appreciate our private space, however the comfortable porch, living room, and dining area remain open to our guests. As we lead full lives, we appreciate hosting couples that are able to give one another regular company and mutual support throughout the day.
