    Description

    🐾 𝐀𝐛𝐨𝐮𝐭 𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐬𝐡𝐞𝐥𝐭𝐞𝐫

Dog shelter based in Hunedoara, Romania - a place where hundreds of rescued souls find safety, love, and a second chance at life. Our mission is simple but powerful: to save, heal, and rehome as many abandoned and neglected dogs as possible.

The shelter is run entirely by a small group of women who pour their hearts into this project every single day. We clean, feed, care for sick dogs, arrange neutering campaigns, and try to give each dog a little piece of what they deserve - kindness and safety. It’s a lot of work, but it’s deeply rewarding.

We also manage adoptions abroad, cooperate with rescue organisations across Europe, and run online campaigns to raise awareness and funds for sterilisation and better conditions for Romanian dogs.

    🌍 𝐖𝐡𝐲 𝐣𝐨𝐢𝐧 𝐮𝐬
Volunteering here is not just about helping - it’s about experiencing Romania from the inside, surrounded by nature, mountains, and the quiet countryside near Hunedoara. You’ll meet kind locals, learn about animal welfare work in Eastern Europe, and become part of a team that truly makes a difference.

If you love dogs, don’t mind getting your hands (and clothes!) dirty, and enjoy being outdoors, you’ll fit right in. Each day is different - some are physically demanding, others are filled with small, joyful moments, like when a scared dog wags its tail for the first time.

    👩‍🌾 𝐀𝐛𝐨𝐮𝐭 𝐮𝐬
We’re not a large organisation - more like a family.
Laura leads the shelter, taking care of everything from feeding and medical treatments to construction work.
Kateřina (that’s me!) helps with communication, adoptions, and social media, and joins the team regularly for hands-on help at the shelter.
We’re also supported by a few amazing volunteers from Romania and abroad, and of course - by around 400 dogs who make every day special in their own chaotic, lovely way!

    💚 𝐖𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐰𝐞 𝐛𝐞𝐥𝐢𝐞𝐯𝐞
We believe that every dog, no matter how broken, deserves a chance.
We believe in compassion, hard work, and small steps that lead to big changes.
And we believe that people who come here as strangers often leave as family.

If that sounds like something for you - we’d be so happy to welcome you to Nobody’s Souls.

You’ll be part of a small international team where everyone brings something different - language, ideas, recipes, music, and stories. We love learning from each other and showing what life in Romania is truly like. You’ll experience rural Romanian life in the peaceful countryside near Hunedoara, surrounded by mountains, forests, and friendly locals who often stop by to chat or bring fresh vegetables.

We speak English, Romanian, Czech, and a bit of German, so communication is easy and relaxed - and we’re always happy to learn new words from your language too!

During your stay, we’ll be glad to show you around the area - Hunedoara is surrounded by beautiful mountain landscapes and historic sites like Corvin Castle. We also love sharing traditional Romanian food, so you’ll have the chance to taste local dishes or join us for a small cooking session.

We’ll gladly tell you more about the situation of Romanian dogs, why so many end up on the streets, and how shelters like ours try to change it step by step. You’ll gain a real insight into the challenges and hopes behind animal rescue work in Eastern Europe.

In return, we’re always curious to learn from you - about your culture, your language, or new ideas that might make our daily work easier or more creative. Whether it’s cooking together, improving the shelter, or simply spending time with the dogs, you’ll feel like part of a big, kind-hearted family. 💚

We welcome animal lovers with a kind heart and a hands-on attitude to join us in our daily shelter life. With around 400 dogs to care for, every helping hand makes a big difference.

𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐰𝐨𝐫𝐤 𝐡𝐞𝐫𝐞 𝐢𝐬 𝐩𝐡𝐲𝐬𝐢𝐜𝐚𝐥 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐬𝐨𝐦𝐞𝐭𝐢𝐦𝐞𝐬 𝐦𝐞𝐬𝐬𝐲, 𝐛𝐮𝐭 𝐚𝐥𝐬𝐨 𝐦𝐞𝐚𝐧𝐢𝐧𝐠𝐟𝐮𝐥 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐟𝐮𝐥𝐥 𝐨𝐟 𝐡𝐞𝐚𝐫𝐭. 𝐘𝐨𝐮’𝐥𝐥 𝐡𝐞𝐥𝐩 𝐰𝐢𝐭𝐡:

🦴 Feeding the dogs and making sure everyone gets their share
🧹 Cleaning kennels and outdoor areas to keep the shelter safe and hygienic
🩺 Basic care - checking for wounds, giving medicine (if comfortable)
🛠️ Small maintenance tasks - cleaning, painting, simple repairs, or helping in the yards
📸 (optional) Helping with photos, videos, or social media if you enjoy creative work
🐶 Socialising and walking dogs, especially the shy ones who need love and patience

You won’t be doing this alone - we work side by side as a team, sharing skills, stories, and laughter along the way. There’s always someone around to guide you and make sure you feel comfortable with the dogs and tasks.

Most days start early in the morning, and you’ll have plenty of time in the afternoon to relax, explore, or just enjoy the company of our furry friends.

We truly appreciate volunteers who are reliable, caring, and respectful towards animals - people who want to make a real impact, not just visit for a photo. If that sounds like you, we can’t wait to meet you! 💚

    🏡 𝐀𝐜𝐜𝐨𝐦𝐦𝐨𝐝𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐟𝐨𝐨𝐝
Volunteers stay directly inside the shelter area, in a fully equipped 45 m² container house that offers everything you need for a comfortable stay:
a kitchen, bathroom, fridge, stove, and internet access. It’s clean, cozy, and right next to the dogs - so you’ll wake up to wagging tails and countryside sounds instead of traffic noise.

We prefer to keep things simple and practical:
food can be provided for you to cook on your own in the kitchen, and we’re happy to buy groceries based on your preferences. Occasionally, we can also arrange cooked meals after discussing it together.

We usually cook with fresh ingredients, but you’re welcome to prepare whatever you like. Sometimes we cook together or share traditional Romanian dishes - a great way to connect and learn about local flavours.

Please note that this is not a luxury stay - it’s a real-life animal rescue environment, where comfort is simple, but the atmosphere is full of kindness, purpose, and wagging tails.

If you love animals, nature, and don’t mind getting a little muddy sometimes, you’ll feel right at home here. 💚

Volunteering here is a unique opportunity to learn more about the situation of dogs in Romania and understand why our work matters. If you’re interested, we can take you to visit a public shelter, where you’ll see the reality that many dogs face - and why private shelters like ours are so important for giving them a second chance.

In your free time, you can explore Hunedoara and the surrounding areas.

Visit the impressive Corvin Castle in Hunedoara or the Fortress of Deva (Cetatea Devei), both rich in history and stunning views.

The beautiful cities of Brașov, Sibiu, and Brad are also within reach for a day trip.

Nature lovers will enjoy the Retezat Mountains, just about an hour away - perfect for hiking and peaceful outdoor adventures.
If needed, we can help arrange transportation for your trips.

Please note that life in the shelter follows the daily rhythm of the dogs.
We start early, usually with sunrise, and throughout the day we try to keep the environment as calm and stress-free as possible for the animals.
For this reason, parties or loud music are not suitable here - we value peace, nature, and the well-being of our dogs.

If you’re travelling with a camper or motorhome, we can offer a safe parking space inside the shelter area, with access to electricity, water, and the shared bathroom and kitchen facilities in the volunteer container. However, please note that the vehicle will be within reach of the dogs, so you should expect them to come close, jump around, and sometimes leave muddy paw prints! 🐾
