I have hosted Alice two times for about 3 weeks each. She is probably the most dedicated, kind and caring person I have ever hosted. The first time was during the olive harvest season. … read more would normally expect from an exchange worker. She is also curious and eager to learn, so she can surely help with everything related to the harvest, pruning as well as no dig gardening. She is more mature and responsible than her age might suggest and has a great ability to interact in a group of people, somehow smoothing possible frictions. The second time she stayed was a completely different contest as there were no other workawayers staying at the same time and she was hosted at my parents house. We focused mainly on the pruning of the vineyard. Vineyard and wine making is her main interest and you can really see how passionate she is about it. She learned in no time the technique and did a great job! In summary Alice is definitely an exceptional addition for anyone looking for help and will always be welcome at my farm.

So grateful that Roberto was my fisrt experience of Workaway... had a wonderful time at his place!
Roberto is a very nice person, super chill and very careful about the volunteer's need! He always took time to talk with us, to prepare good meals (with very good organic and local products from his friends or the garden), to show us how to cook some
… read more italian dishes (such as gnocchi, risotto or scarolla), and to make us try fresh fruits from his garden! Also brought us to the hot spring after a few days of hard work, and made us visit the tiny market nearby, and Orvieto!
Here is what a typical day during the olives harvest looks like: We have breakfast around 8, and take some times to discuss about everyting. We start around 9:30, and work until the lunch break at 2. Sometimes we work also a few hours after lunch, but not everyday. For taking the olives we either use the "shakers" tools, manual tools or our hands! Depends on each person strengh and preference. But don't worry: he won't force you to use the one you don't want, and you can take some breaks and have some snacks as well! If we collected enough olives, we go to the mill around 6 to bring it there, but again, not everyday, and if you don't wanna join, you can stay home! After, we're making lunch (almost) all together, and it's a very fun moment! We had the chance to try fresh olive oil on bread, tasted some wine, and had very nice chat! Sometimes he's cooking, and other time we can cook as well, so we can make other people discover new meal, and so, do some cultural exchange. After lunch we have a cup of herbal tea, while having interessant conversations again. Bed time is whenever you want, but after a day outside, for sure you'll be quite tired! As we sometimes work more than 5 hours, we have more rest days. But actually, it depends on the weather. When it's raining, it's not possible to work with the olives at all, so we either do a bit of cleaning, gardening, compost... or rest/tourism/play with Pepe (the little baby cat, who's so adorable! I already miss him a lot)! Of course you will exchange a lot with the other volunteers there, and make some friends for sure! I was so happy to meet Lucia, Elisa, Alessandro and Lotta! <3
In conclusion: It was such an amazing experience, I can recommend 100%, and for sure I'll come back in 2025!
Little message for Roberto: Do not hesitate to communicate a bit more about what you're waiting about your workawayers. Sometimes we really wanted to help you, but we were afraid to be seen as 'too intrusive' ;)
