Description
We’re a family of five living on a 10-acre farm in the Shuswap. I’m Cara, my husband is Oscar, and we have three awesome kids. We're pretty new to fto this and learning as we go — embracing the chaos, the joy, and all the lessons that come with it!
We're not farming, we're just trying to utilize the property as much as possible.
We have a couple gardens and some animals.
Our little hobby farm is home to sheep, goats, and two friendly dogs who love attention. We also have a large pond that’s become a nesting ground for western painted turtles and attracts all kinds of ducks and birds — it’s our peaceful little wildlife corner.
We don’t have a specific big project happening, but there’s always something that needs a hand — like lawn mowing, cleaning out the chicken coop or sheep pens, or some weeding in the garden when things get overgrown. We're also totally open to suggestions and fresh ideas — especially if you have a background or passion for sustainability, permaculture, or homesteading.
Our long-term dream is to become more self-sufficient and build a homestead-style life here. We’re very much a work in progress, so if you're someone who enjoys the slower pace of rural life and doesn't mind jumping in wherever needed, we’d love to welcome you to our little farm.
We’re a pretty laid-back family—some days we’re busy with the farm, and other days we just hang out and take it easy. We really value a good work-life balance and make sure there’s time to relax, have fun, and just enjoy life.
There’s a beach super close by—just a 5-minute drive. You can bike there, catch a bus, or we’re happy to give you a lift too!
We're also super close to town and there seems to always be something to do in the Shuswap.
We also have our property listed on Hipcamp, and occasionally people come to camp here on the farm. All of the sites are already set up, and we’re not looking for any help with that part.
In 2024, we hosted five campers, but we’ve closed most of this summer for bookings while we decide if we want to continue offering camping in the future.
We decided to try to host work away folks because we have 10 acres and there are only the 2 of us who try our best to utilize this land.
While we might ask for some help here and there you can have your freedom and privacy to do as you wish.
Honestly there is not much to do here on a regular basis but things do pop up occasionally.

This is a great opportunity for travelers to learn new skills, get a feel for farm life, and enjoy the warmth of a close-knit, laid-back family environment.
We like to keep things relaxed around here.
I’m First Nations and sometimes do a bit of smudging—I'd be happy to share that experience with you if you're interested. Culturally, we keep things pretty simple and low-key.

Aide
We’re looking for travelers who are happy to lend a hand with a variety of tasks around the homestead. This might include mucking out animal stalls and coops, mowing the lawn, or weeding the gardens when needed. You may also help care for our animals—feeding and checking in on the sheep, goats, chickens, and dogs.
Occasionally, we might ask for help putting the animals to bed at night, especially if we’re heading out for a rare date night and don’t want to rush home.

There’s a hideaway bed in the living room, but if you’d rather be closer to nature, you’re welcome to camp anywhere on the property—in a tent, camper, or RV. We also have a communal firepit that guests are welcome to enjoy.
If you prefer camping, we can provide a tent and bedding—just let us know! You’re also welcome to use the restroom and laundry as needed. Make yourself at home.

You’ll have plenty of opportunities to explore the beautiful surroundings. There’s a nearby lake that’s perfect for swimming, fishing, or just relaxing by the water. The area is full of scenic beauty, with lots of hiking trails and charming spots to discover—perfect for nature lovers.
Local transportation is available, but having a car can make it easier to explore further out. We’re always happy to share tips on nearby attractions, local shops, hidden gems, or the best spots to unwind. In the summer, there are live bands playing in town on Friday nights—or you can just stretch out and relax on the beach.
For foodies, there are a couple of really yummy restaurants in town that are definitely worth checking out!

Our 10-acre property includes both pasture and forest, offering several camping options for those who enjoy the outdoors. We also have potable water available throughout the property. Restroom and laundry is available as well.
Possibilité d'accueillir les animaux
We have two dogs on the property who are full of energy and excitement—especially when meeting new dogs. The first 30 minutes can be a bit hectic as they get to know each other, but they’re not aggressive at all. We really appreciate animals with friendly, easygoing temperaments. If your dog tends to be aggressive or isn't great around other animals, our place might not be the best fit.
