From the moment of their arrival, Emilia & Amelia were attentive, curious, detailed, generous and they were lovely company. They are quick to grasp, coordinate beautifully, communicate clearly and voluntarily - despite tending towards 'quiet.' Update:
Emilia & Amelia returned this summer (2024) 'just to visit.' Instead they jumped in taking over cooking and gardening to the point of my being able to really take a break. It was terrifically kind.
Each is at uni pursuing her career-calling. It was an honor to host them again and to feel a contributing part to their unfolding. I welcome them with appreciation and open arms if and whenever they might to return.
We were lucky enough to stay with Tracy for two weeks last summer. It was a wonderful and enriching experience for both of us. Tracy welcomed us into her home and life and treated us like family. Staying at Tracy's was both fascinating, rewarding and demanding. At Tracy's everything exists in the space between theory and practice; no abstract question is split off from everyday life, while no practical task is exempt from analysis. Living and working at Tracy's place can definitely be recommended, as long as you bring curiosity and a

Tracy was great to stay with. She offers knowledge on a wide range of topics from activism to ecology, is warm and accommodating so long as you respect her rules (which should go without saying in someone else's home).

Context Intro:
I live in an old house [300-500 yrs old] that is not quite off-grid but with fewer modern amenities than many who are truly offgrid. This means that Workaway help-guests find themselves immersed in an experience that exceeds most contemporary definitions of modern sustainability. In truth, my existence is more in keeping with
… read more vernacular practices of previous centuries albeit accompanied by internet, contemporary philosophy and activism, less breakable plastic, better tools and a few bits and bobs from Ikea.
Adriana & Alvaro were - from the start via message, texting, video chatting and arrival - genuine and eager, willing and thoughtful, thinking, present and joyous. They are - each and together - full of great stories and adventures taken to heart and metabolized, considered, measured, relativized and made relevant in new and differing circumstances. Their skillsets, willingness, and communication styles and standards are wonderfully complementary which is a tremendous advantage as a host because they will take what is said, asked, or as-yet to do... and work it out together. Meanwhile, they are also each, accomplished in their respective interests, disciplines and professional trajectories. This is a much-welcomed dimensionality that adds insight, diversion, intrigue and problem-solving to everything from dinner conversation to grocery shopping, from visiting historical sites to getting through less stimulating tasks. Even hitting some bumps, we collectively navigated for our collective respectful best.
In addition to the usual 20 hours of work, I squeezed in almost 19 hours of sightseeing; and we did it all in just 6 days. This says a lot about their capacity for trust, energy, commitment and determination. I look forward to hearing about Alvaro & Adriana's future, and hopefully visiting again together one day.
Safe travels & happiest of trails.

We had the most amazing Workaway experience at this 300+ year-old house in the beautiful area of Bassano del Grappa. Tracy, the house owner, is an amazing host and made our stay a true delight with a fantastic mix of cool jobs like gardening, carpentry, cooking, and fixing electric stuff, and amazing conversations. But that's not all! Tracy's

This Workaway experience was an absolute gem, and we'd highly recommend it to fellow travelers seeking a transformative journey. Tracy's warmth, flexibility, and expertise created an unforgettable blend of work and exploration.
While the experience was undeniably incredible, we would like to mention the importance of approaching Workaway opportunities with a patient attitude and an open heart. Volunteering in a foreign environment requires flexibility and understanding, and Tracy was incredibly patient with us as we navigated cultural differences and language barriers. It's through this patience and open-mindedness that we were able to forge a deep connection with her.Vous pouvez seulement contacter les workawayers avec une adhésion active.

Laissé par l'hôte pour le workawayer (Nick)
Nick was a last minute request that I accepted kinda knowing there wouldn't be time to get into bigger projects. The only reason I have his skill set at 4 was simply because we didn't have time for me to indicate more. But what I can say is that he was alert, attentive and willing and that often has more value than skills, as I felt was his

He was great with communication regarding travel needs and times, as well as other conventional house matters, and thoughtful throughout his stay - something I really appreciate doing an enormous and ongoing project alone.
Having a nice person willing to just help handle ordinary tasks is the closest I get to a break and Nick was just straight up appreciative and willing, big or small.
We also had a pretty amazing set of conversations about life, the state of the world, our parts in that, and our different experiences including work, cultures, gender, activisms, arts... If I remember correctly there's about 30 year age difference so we covered a lot of interesting topics and went pretty deep. It was very meaningful to me and I hope and think it was for him as well.
He's bright, able, and willing and that sets Nick apart from many.
Wish you well & door is always open.

I contacted Tracy back in April ’22 as I needed accommodation immediately. With only a short face time call, Tracy invited me into her home and let me stay for some days, while I could look for longer accommodation and work solutions on workaway.
I think Tracy and I are different in so many ways. I’ve just traveled through Italy in big cities and
… read more on rather luxurious places, but also with a lot of egocentric people where their only purpose through workaway was to get free labour. So to get to an old house in a small town and live with a lady and her many cats was quite a big contrast to me. However, I think it was so good for me. With only a few days, I got some new life perspectives through Tracy and how we should treat Mother Earth. The work that I did was minimum, so I don’t even have to cover that part.
The last night at her house we spend four hours talking about stuff I’ve never told anybody. I think it was easier to express, because we were totally strangers to each other. Even though it maybe was a little hard to figure each other out at first, I think that we had some very deepfull, reflective and personal conversatins that I weigh higher than swimming pools, private tennis court or any fancy stuff you can find within workawayer hosts in Italy.
Sorry for the late review, Tracy, but better late than never!Vous pouvez seulement contacter les workawayers avec une adhésion active.

Laissé par l'hôte pour le workawayer (Rocco)
From the beginning, Rocco, approached me with one of the most pleasant, upbeat and thoughtful messages I've ever received through Workaway. It was a sudden request that I almost declined due to the short notice - and following several less than positive experiences I'd had of recent which had me considering a long pause.
But Rocco's visit was an
… read more unforeseen gift that not only provided great help - willing and careful - but also renewed my reasons for hosting.
Rocco was helpful, ready to jump in, remembered things mentioned in passing, and communicative: asking, suggesting, clarifying if/when in doubt. He is alert, observant, kind, well-mannered, attentive, smart and keenly interested in learning, seeing, growing and becoming... He tends towards quiet, low-key, even a bit shy but he is motivated, self-contained and self-directing; grabbing info for his excursions on the internet, researching topics I needed, going off on hikes, or quietly reading and writing... - giving me time to do the same, run an errand, rest, or prep for the next day's project, or adventure to a local site.
His knowledge of literature and language, his intellectual honesty, curiosity and doubts are inspiring, reassuring, uplifting and he shares: clever, funny, sincere.
We didn't have time to get into more demanding projects with tools or requiring developed manual skill so I can't go into detail but Rocco's combination of willingness, respect, humility, common sense and smart reasoning will be fertile ground for anyone willing to show him how and invest some time and guidance.
As a teacher, professor, sometimes mentor, and older Workaway host, I'm eager to meet next generations' thoughtful humans. Rocco is easily one of best visitor/guest/helpers I've had in all my years of hosting.
Thank you Rocco,
you will always be welcome.

I had a great time staying with Tracy, although we probably both will agree that we had some very intense moments together. We had an intense start when we struggled to get the caravan into the garden. But once everything was in place we had very good chats.

Dear Tracy,
I'm so incredibly grateful for everything you have taught us and how you welcomed us into your loving home. This didn't just feel like a regular workaway experience, this felt like coming home to an old friend. I'm so glad we got to meet you and learn things far beyond what we imagined.
So, to anyone considering coming to stay with

do it! Unfortunately, we didn't have any professional experience to help with the big projects around the house. But the only thing that really matters here is being involved in any way you can. And believe me, you'll receive so much more than a place to stay in return. We've had the honor to learn so much from Tracy, from feminism in the US to village life in Italy and stranding in Croatia, she has so many crazy stories to tell.
We hope to come back soon!Vous pouvez seulement contacter les workawayers avec une adhésion active.
