    Description

    We warmly welcome volunteers to Mama Africa Charity Home Foundation, a small community school and children’s home near Kibale Forest National Park in Fortportal,Uganda. We support vulnerable children and at-risk families through education, care, and empowerment. Volunteers help us teach, inspire children, and share cultural exchange while experiencing real rural Ugandan life close to nature.

    We are a registered community-based non-profit organization supporting vulnerable children and families near Kibale Forest National Park in Fort Portal, Uganda.

    For over 4 years, we have been working with children who are orphaned, vulnerable, or unable to access stable education due to poverty, loss of parents, and economic challenges. We currently support over 100 children through our small charity school and community home.

    Our mission is simple: education, care, and empowerment for a better future.

    Close to chimpanzee trekking and nature tourism sites

    We are a small non-profit organization working with limited resources. Volunteers are part of our family and we appreciate any support, skills, and ideas shared with the community.

    Volunteers
    Currently we provide free accommodation for workawayers in a shared house with different private rooms.
    You will not probably not enjoy the luxury of your home country.
    Rain showers are not common here, instead ,you will learn to clean your self with a bucket of water and soap (it's not difficult, and will even enjoy and become more cleaner afterwards.
    Likewise ,clothes and bedsheets are hand washed and ironed.

    Food.
    Workawayers will enjoy their meals in the dinning room, often with family members.
    Simple dishes are prepared by a maid.
    These are dishes include sweet potatoes, beans,matooke (savory banana)porridge, rice,chapti,posho,(cornmeal porridge, cassava ,maize,some veggies and sometimes fish or meat.

    We are charity organization,with small budget and voluntary donations of food are not un welcome. If you desire special meals it's up to you to purchase food in town and prepare the food.

    Water

    Tap water is used for washing and cooking. Drinking water is boiled but you might want to buy bottled water which is available and clean too.
    The place is secure and safe,no trace passes.

    Electricity.

    The place is equipped with electricity,this means that you can charge your phone,laptop, tablet, power bank but not at the same time.

    Internet.

    Currently there is no Wi-Fi at the place. Workawayers are advised to purchase a Ugandan Sim cards with Internet bundles.
    There are different providers of Sim cards with Internet bundles and minutes but Mtn and airtel are most common.
    You can purchase a sim card upon arrival in Entebbe or Kampala, but there are also possibilities in Fort portal
    Sim card including registration free will cost you around 20000UGX,(5,44USD,4,480EUR).the Ugandan mobile system works with mobile money that you put on your phone as it were mobile wallet.
    Mobile money can be used to buy internet bundles, to call or to send messages and it's also possible to withdraw or transfer money through your phone.
    In general,monthly 10G internet bundles will cost you 50000UGX(13,59USD,12EUR).
    In order to use social media, in Uganda, you need to pay taxes to Ugandan government. Monthly social media tax is 6000UGX(1,63USD,1,44EUR)
    In Fort portal there are many Internet cafes to be found ,or if you want to relax while browsing, you can order a coffee in a hotel with Wi-Fi zone.

    Transport.

    There are different ways of traveling from one place to another in Uganda.
    Within cities (such as Kampala) uber and bodaboda are used,in towns people rely on bodaboda motorcycles between towns buses and matatus are used for

    transport.

    Aboda boda is a motorcycle(motor bike) that functions as a taxi ,carrying up to 3 people.
    It's often a pleasant ride with a possibility of observing environment with a cooling breeze in your hair.To avoid ulgy discussions after the ride, the price for a bodaboda is needs to be established before mounting the bike. With time ,you will understand the pricing and comfortable bargain with your bodaboda driver.

    Clothing.

    Many travelers ask what clothes they are supposed to bring to Uganda. Of course, it depends on what you're most comfortable in. However, do not think that because this is Africa you needn't bring anything fashionable. People in Uganda dress very well! Colorful dresses, good jeans, branded shirts, shining shoes; Ugandans like to look good. It's possible to wear short clothing like skirts, dresses and shorts, just leave your sexy hot pants home. At the accommodation, you'll probably want to wear thin, short clothing and flip-flops. Keep in mind that items are cheaper here and that you can even have your custom clothing tailored here. You will pick a fabric and explain or even draw what you would like to have (jumpsuit, trousers, jacket) and voila: your personal design clothing.

    Our location offers many tourist sites such as lakes, rivers, parks, a zoo, and a beautiful social community that love sharing their culture.
    Being located not so far from a Kampala our capital city and Entebbe.
