Description
*This profile is not just about sailing, and we receive lots of applications, so please READ the complete profile well and make sure it fits you. If you write to us, please tell us about the things that you like to do the most and what can your hands give to these projects :)*
The pictures you see are not all current, you can see some abandoned boats and some restored by us during the last 8 years ;)
(UNDER PROJECTS DESCRIPTIONS THERE IS AN UPDATE OF THE SITUATION NOW (26/08/22 :)
On this profile there is 4 different projects that are correlated,
1- Resurrecting abandoned boats, and put them on service to sustainable projects. (On Stand by until august 2023)
2-THE LAND ,where we all live together in "Papaya" Sailboat we doo maintenance on the land and rebuild a small house. ( 3 Volunteers max untill december)
3- "PAPAYA" the sailboat on the land, used as a house.
4- "Stoutheart" A private sailboat where some Technician volunteers can join working with us as a paid position.
1-The Project
The Project consists of the restoration of abandoned boats and collaboration with those boats with sustainable projects, such as marine conservation, sail cargo, immigrant rescue, and all kinds of charitable projects that need a boat.
HOW
How can we do this?
Often private ports end up with lots of abandoned boats from owners that died, or owners having disputes, arrested immigration or drugs traffic... in general debts.
Years after the boats are completely abandoned and the ports after a long legal process, make auctions to get rid of the boats and recover part of the debts. Often the legal process takes too long and ports cannot sell some of them because of their bad state, then they have to pay lots of money to destroy them with scrap companies. There is where we can enter and make a good deal with the ports.
That’s not a theory it’s the way I have been doing it since I started.
During my years of travelling on many different sailboats I found many abandoned boats, and I have a map list on my head of them sitting there waiting for us to bring them back to life ;)
-Starting-
The first step it’s a bit like the chicken and the egg, we don’t know what will come first, the land or the big boat to put on it, what its clear is that there is many boats waiting for us and not all will need a land to be fixed, some will be possible to fix in the same place where we get them.
-The boats
The small boats up to 10 meter will be used to teach and practice for students and volunteers the world of boat restoration and sailing.
The boats between 11 and 15mtr will be fixed with volunteers and professionals used to bring workers and tools to the places where a big boat needs our hands, and also to have a place to live during the reparations.
The big boats over 14mtr will be fixed and transformed (if possible) in to electric motors with volunteers and professionals, and then rent, sold, or whatever deal we make with a sustainable/ charity project that needs a boat
-The land
The land that we use for the boats its located in the suroundings of the village, "Santa Margarita". Chill place with nice landscapes views.
Lands are the “sanctuary of boats” for us, ideally the best would be to borrow lands from the government, or particular people that wants to collaborate, but depending of the situation and the budget we might buy or rent some. Do you have a land? O.O
-The Web
Once we got a boat, we will list them with their specifications on our website so that sustainable companies/organisations are able to choose the best boat for them, for whatever project they want.
Whether to buy, lend, or whatever deal we make. Smaller boats (less than 10mt) can be donated to schools or transformed into accommodation.
-The funding's
Ideally would be nice to maintain the project economically with the rental and sell of our boats, but as we are starting and all boat world its very expensive and a part of the team will be paid, we will have to study which types of funding we can get, as state grands, company and personal donations, and different types of crowdfunding.
-The workers
. VOLUNTEERS
Big part of the project it's going to be maintained with volunteer help, mostly in the beginning, and as we going to work on lands, boats and office we will include a big range of different tasks from office to tree trimming or from welding to manager.
Apart of Stoutheart project, we don’t have incomings from our project to pay nobody, but people who start with us as volunteers with the time can have a paid position as an Office/ research/social media, management, lawyer, skippers, teachers and all type of boat technicians
. Students
This part its clearly more orientated to a future where we have some more structures holding the project upright. But yes, the idea is that in some of our lands receive schools of marine reparation, and with them fix the small boats under 11mtr, as a professional formation. With the concept of with the time be able to give paid jobs to the student's ones they finish their degree.
2- THE LAND
This is the land where we all live and a sailboat "Papaya", At the moment we receive max 3 volunteers until December, during this period the volunteers can help with the land maintenance of fruit trees, some bricolage, chickens, dogs, and general day life in a farm.
On December (Aprox) we plan to start with a group of volunteers of min 5 ppl, and starting to transform this barn in to a nice living house. And some other tasks that will include, plumbing, electricity, concrete, welding, carpentry... That part probably will take another 6 month.
3- PAPAYA
PAPAYA, sitting on the land as, maintained by volunteers, a magical place to stay.
4- STOUTHEART
Stoutheart it's a very strong 13 meter sailboat made of marine steel. On this refit we are doing structural and ballast changes, sand blasting and painting, and well all type of jobs that include welding, metal work, designing, electricity, plumbing, carpentry.......
On this project sometimes we take some volunteers to work with us if they have good experience with this jobs or if they are agile to learn. This is a paid position job. if you are interested, you can contact us and see if we can plan something together.
OUR SITUATION NOW (26/08/22):
Now we focus on Stoutheart, the land, sailboat "Papaya", and finally "IZANDO VELAS".
ABOUT ME:
I'm Quique, a 28 year-young Spanish guy fascinated with sailing and fixing abandoned boats around France, Spain, Madeira, Balearic and :D
I'm sailing and working for boats for 8 years; I have sailed with different sailing boats and had unstoppable adventures.
If I could choose a word, it would be FREEDOM, a colour turquoise, a fruit mangooo, a musical group UAKTI, an instrument piano!...But all this is today, let's see what I choose tomorrow! :P I'm calm but active, patient, ambitious, open, flexible :) I love to play music, hiking, climbing, diving, and all kind of extreme sports, also love meditation, repair all kind of things, share interesting talks, sail away, the rain, philosophy, recycling and the most I love is nature and the people who care of it :) (but this is all a dream in my head because in reality I spend all my days just working nonstop on boats haha)
I'm vegan but I have no problem having meat around, always that you keep everything clean of blood shit!
I’m in charge of all these projects, and there is lots to check and choose that I have to constantly do, but for you to have an idea I’m not the typical bossy guy, and I don’t like that attitude. I like that everybody listens, decides how to organise their time with freedom adjusting to their needs, thinks with their own heads, and that there is a good communication between everybody to decide what its best to do for each situation😊Types d'aide et opportunités d'apprendre
