Description
House and pet sitting over winter in beautiful Portugal - surf, kitesurf, and wing foil. Previous experience with tricky dogs, and a commitment for 4 months is a must.
**Important point - The lodge and kitesurf business is closed for the winter and there will no guests on the property while you're here. There's no expectation for you to manage anything to do with the business at all; we are literally just looking for a house/petsit for this period!**

We're Siobhan and Julien, and we just recently took over a kitesurfing business here in Óbidos Lagoon. The business comes with a guesthouse and we need help with house and pet sitting over the winter period. We are looking for someone who can stay here in the house with our dog, Rocky, for 4 months from mid November until the beginning/middle of March. Perfect opportunity for remote workers, watersports lovers, or anyone who enjoys being in nature. We are just a short walk from the lagoon itself, as well as the beautiful beaches, and you have direct access to cycle tracks, walking paths and all the activities that the Portuguese coastline offers. Even better if you're a kitesurfer, or wingfoiler, as you can be on the water in 2 minutes from the house and we have plenty of space for storing gear etc.
The house has fast wifi for working, double or twin room (your choice) as well as a cosy downstairs lounge and kitchen, with table tennis, open fire and access to the garden. We have a pool too, but it might be a bit cold for swimming :) We have bicycles and surfboards available for you.
All we ask is that you take care of Rocky, and the house, keeping it clean and tidy, maybe the odd minor hands on task that crops up and keeping us informed of anything that we should know. Rocky is a small mix breed from Vietnam, who hasn't had the easiest life. This makes him a little wary of strangers, and he needs patience and space to warm up to people he doesn't know. Once he decides you're good, you're his friend for life, though! He needs a couple of short walks everyday, and aside from that he's very low maintenance and chills a lot. We would prefer to have someone with experience dealing with slightly difficult dogs like him.
It's good to have your own transport, as we are approx 25mins drive from the nearest big town (Caldas da Rainha or Óbidos) but there are four restaurant/coffee shops in walking distance from the house, as well as a small convenience store. We can also insure you on our car if needed, so that you can use it for getting around.

You can explore the lagoon by foot, or by bike. You are literally a stones throw from various surf breaks, and a short drive to Baleal, Ferrel etc where you'll find even more world class surf!

She is super reliable, very organized, and easily picked up everything after a half-spoken word.
We have been very fortunate to have her with us these past months, which made my life a lot easier!
Very good work mentality, super proactive (which makes my life very easy because half of the time she knows better what to do than I).
But most importantly she is super cheerful all the time which just makes everyone have a good mood.

She's has been an amazing help has a super pro active attitude and has been a lot of fun to have around!
All of us were pretty sad that she had to go back to France, but hopefully she'll join us at some point once more!
