Hello and nice to meet you! We have recently bought a hotel on the beach of Livingston, the Caribbean side of Guatemala. We've been around the area for years, but decided to embark on this new adventure. The place is located right on the beach in a lively Garifuna neighborhood, just a 10 minute walk from the main street. We are a few minute's walk away from the beach bars/clubs/restaurants and an hour's walk from the seven altars waterfall. We have live local music at least twice a week and welcome people to come and jam.
The hotel itself is going through a change from resort to flash-packers and offers private rooms and dorms. We have a bar and restaurant and a beautiful pool surrounded by tropical gardens. We have tons of great books and some games and we can arrange cheap tours for volunteers.
We share our space with our dogs Zoom and Ollie, cat Piti and on-and-off strays.

We are located in an amazing town with a huge cultural diversity. The Garifuna culture is very different from what you encounter in the rest of Guatemala. It is a truly Caribbean, unique culture with the focus on music and food. We are located in the middle of the Garifuna part of town and have neighbors walk in and out all day. You will truly feel like part of the community and make great friends. Our cook and cleaner are Kek'Chi Mayan and we have visitors from all over the world coming through. We are happy to share all of our experiences around the area with the volunteers and guests and volunteers are bound to meet lots of local people, listen to their music and experience the real Livingston.
All of the local attractions are easy to get to, either on your own or through a cheap(er) tour (like the Sapodillo Cayes, Seven Altars, Playa Blanca, Rio Quehueche, Rio Dulce, Tiger cave, fishing, etc).
We have recently bought the hotel that had a lot of negligence. We are around to do most things, but don't have ten hands. We mostly need a hand with the tourists coming through. Helping them get checked-in and feel welcome. We are looking for open-minded, social volunteers, preferably with a basic Spanish and already traveling in the area. You will be in a very culturally-mixed team with us being Europeans, the cook and cleaner both Qek'chi Mayan and the gardener, handy man and night guard all Garifuna.
A couple will have a private room with a double bed and private bathroom on the hotel grounds, single travelers will share a room with one other volunteer. All meals are included and you'll get cost-price drinks from the bar. You are welcome to use all of the hostel facilities.
We will be super flexible with working times and you will have lots of time to explore the town and area, visit the waterfall, go on tours, sunbathe by the pool, read some great books or whatever you feel like.
