  • Description

This is a land based eco-centre run by local people on the tip of the Llyn Peninsula in North West Wales. We are a registered Charity. All the centre's building and organic gardening projects have been carried out entirely by volunteers and so this little corner of Wales bears the fingerprints of people from all corners of the earth. We are particularly looking for experienced (although not required), motivated and enthusiastic people to help in the community garden and in and around the centre.

The Centre is a land-based social enterprise. Over the past 16 years the charity has been developing a formerly derelict 23-acre farm as a cultural and environmental centre. The project is in an area of outstanding natural beauty and Welsh speaking communities.

This year we are working on starting up a local veg box scheme and so there are a lot of tasks to be done in the garden (organic in practice but not certified) and on maintaining the site in general which is open to the public. We are looking for help primarily in the day-to-day routine of the garden so that we can focus our attention on a new cafe for the site. The help includes watering, tending to our chickens, sowing, planting, weeding, mowing, clearing, harvesting help on our local volunteer days etc... Sometimes the tasks can be difficult so you will need to be physically fit and energetic! We ask that our volunteers are flexible to help in other areas of the centre if needed. (We also run several accommodations on site.)

We are asking for longer term volunteers with a minimum of a month stay as this way we get to know each other better and you get into the flow of our routine. Maximum stay is open to discussion after a review period of two weeks.

We offer dried beans and pulses, veg from the garden and milk to our volunteers. Other food that you might want you will need to purchase yourself. You can do so from the local village of Aberdaron which is 4 miles away. We do live in a very rural area but there are lots of beautiful beaches and trails to walk nearby.

We would love to get volunteers who share our passion for working the land so a strong interest in gardening is a must.

We are looking for a couple or two individual volunteers to help a 5 hour day five days a week (with an hour and a half of breaks).

  • Hébergement

The accommodation is in shared rooms in the old stone farmhouse.

Living quarters are a shared (and ever so slightly falling apart) farmhouse and you might have to share a room with members of the opposite sex so you will need to be comfortable with this. The house is already occupied by three-five people and you will be living with the current managers of the project, a resident and another one to two volunteers. All facilities are shared and basic. There is no shower, only a bath. Some days there can be a lot of people around, so you’ll need to be comfortable with this!

We have a zero tolerance of any drugs or excessive drinking- and if we do understand that this rule is being broken, we will have to ask you to leave.

The centre is in a remote rural setting four miles away from the nearest seaside village of Aberdaron which has a small shop, bakery, fish and chip shop and two pubs.

There are many splendid hidden beaches within minutes of here, and the ancient Celtic hill-forts nearby.

Pwllheli, the nearest big town and train station, is 16 miles away. There is a regular weekday bus service from Pwllheli to the village of Rhoshirwaun which is ten minutes walk away.
