    Description

Nestled on 20 beautiful acres in a charming artisan village, just steps from a stunning lake, our eco-friendly homestead offers a unique escape into simple, sustainable living. Located only 15 minutes from town and 35 minutes from the city, we are close enough for convenience while still offering the peace, fresh air, Night stars, and country charm of rural life.

We are a non-profit, family-run farm home to heritage pigs, goats, chickens, turkeys, guinea fowl, and the true star of the farm — Lizzy, our beloved donkey. Depending on the season, you may see us clearing land, milling our own wood, tending animals, or building projects around the property. While we love traditional homesteading, we also use equipment such as tractors, an excavator, and a side-by-side to help make the work manageable and keep the farm running smoothly.

Life on our homestead is lively, warm, and full of character. We are a big blended family with 12 children in total, including 3 still at home ranging in age from 3 to 12, so there is always a sense of energy, welcome, and community here. Allan is a retired Canadian Forces veteran, and I am a registered nurse currently studying to become a nurse practitioner, as well as a volunteer firefighter.

We are also located near a military base, so guests may occasionally hear training exercises from the range. Most visitors adjust quickly and often find it adds a unique sense of place to the setting.

This year, we are excited to begin keeping honey bees and to add a 24-foot heated above-ground pool for even more family fun and relaxation.

Our dream is to one day offer cozy cottages where guests can fully immerse themselves in the beauty of the land. Until then, we are excited to share our homestead, our animals, and our passion for eco-friendly living with those who visit.

Come unplug — or stay connected if you prefer — breathe deeply, and experience life on our homestead, where family, nature, and community come together.

Life on our homestead is full of variety! Each day brings something a little different, but you’ll always be learning new skills and working with your hands. Some of the tasks Workawayers may help with include:

🌱 Land help: clearing brush, planting, gardening, and helping us shape the land into more usable space.

🪵 Building projects: assisting with milling our own wood, basic carpentry, fencing, and small construction projects around the property.

🐐 Animal care: feeding and watering our heritage pigs, goats, chickens, turkeys, and guinea fowl and donkey; helping with cleaning coops/pens; and collecting eggs.

🧹 Homestead upkeep: helping keep shared spaces tidy, small repairs, and creative projects to make the farm more welcoming.

🌸 Family & community life: sharing meals, playing with our kids (ages 3–12), and experiencing the rhythm of a big, busy homestead family.

    Hébergement

We live in a 2,800 sq. ft. bungalow that was built just two years ago. Guests may stay in a private room in our walk-out basement with a door that locks for privacy or in our 26foot travel trailer fully serviced. The in home room has a comfortable daybed that pulls out into a king-sized bed, and there is a bathroom located just next to the room.

The space does double as my office when it’s not occupied, but whenever we have guests, I am more than happy to relocate my studies so you can enjoy the space comfortably.

Our home is shared with our family and a few indoor animals — three friendly dogs and two cats — so guests should be comfortable around pets.

When you stay with us, you become part of the family. You’re welcome to join us for meals, and we love sharing food and conversation around the table. We do eat meat, but we will happily do our best to accommodate vegetarian or other dietary preferences. The kitchen and the house are open for you to use as you wish — we want you to feel like this is your home away from home… just with a little extra energy and farm-life chaos!
