Description
Since September 2025 me, my two doggies and four chickens have lived on this beautiful mountain in Chella. There’s never a dull moment here on the Spanish campo, with animals, olive trees, fruit trees, veggies and home, all requiring care. If you’ve ever been curious if homesteading on the Spanish campo is something you’d like, this may be great opportunity for you to experience the lifestyle and local culture. From my side, it would be nice to have some help with my regular and incidental tasks. On the campo you will get to stay in a luxurious private casita with all regular amenities, and have access to a swimming pool to relax. It's a 15 minute drive to get to the nearest village so it is necessary to have your own transportation.

Echange culturel et opportunités d'apprendre
Learn about the Spanish way of living in the countryside. Get to know a multicultural collection of Spanish residents in the neighborhood while enjoying the beautiful, natural environment, and learning how to take care of a semi-off-grid Spanish campo-based homestead. This is especially helpful for Workawayers who are curious if this lifestyle is something they’d enjoy.
Besides helping with and learning about the basic tasks required to maintain a sustainable living in an environment like this, such as taking care of the general property, the chickens, olive trees and fruit trees, as well as the vegetable garden, you can take the opportunity to go on hikes to breathe in the stunning surroundings, or visit Valencia or smaller nearby towns and settlements to get to know the local culture.
I myself am from the Netherlands. The area is filled with residents from multiple different backgrounds, including Spanish, British, French and German - each with their own experiences and cultural lessons to teach and learn.
The local settlement, Chella (quiet and picturesque), is about 15 minutes away by car, while Valencia (large and bustling) is about an hour away, with Xativa (somehwere in between) being about 30 minutes. With each providing a unique local culture and atmosphere due to differences in size, activity and location. In Chella and surroundings there is a great community sense with a lot of festivities.
Lastly, while the opportunity for you to enjoy your privacy in your own dedicated casita (including private kitchen(ette)) is an important part of my offering to you as a Workawayer, I do enjoy learning new recipes and sharing meals.
Aide
Living semi-off-grid on the Spanish campo comes with a multitude of tasks. I have four chickens, Madame Curie, Wilma, Janet and Gerda, as well as my two dogs, Abby and Conde, who all love company, cuddles, and, most of all, food(!).
My olives, oranges and other fruits and vegetables don’t appear magically. Partially living off the land, means my regular tasks consist of trimming, watering and otherwise taking care of my trees and vegetable garden. (As an example, I have a DIY-irrigation system with rubber tubing that runs over the surface, which works wonderfully, but does need periodic check-ups, such as inspecting the rubber tubing for leaks, tears and integrity.)
In addition, as with any homestead, there is always a multitude of smaller DIY-projects such as painting and general small maintenance and chores that I could use an extra hand with.
I'm also looking for some creative input on what to do with a sizable shipping container I currently have on the property. I was thinking of turning it into a little workshop for DIY and wood projects, but I'm very open to creative suggestions!
While I’m very handy in some aspects and have things to teach, I’m obviously not an expert at everything, so, assuming you’re a bit handy too, I’m hoping to learn a lot from you as well. Plus, having company makes any task lighter!

Hébergement
You will have your own luxurious, private casita on the campo, separate from the main house. The casita includes amenities such as: double bed, private bathroom including bath and shower, wood stove, washing machine, private kitchen(ette), refrigerator, wifi connection and patio. Right next to the casita there is a shaded parking spot, suitable for a car or camper or similar.
In addition, there is a swimming pool next to the main house that you are free to use and relax at.
The chickens and land provide eggs and an amount of fruits and veggies that we can share. Any additional food arrangement can be discussed. While I enjoy cooking and eating together and sharing recipes, it's also important to me that you are able to freely enjoy the privacy my unique casita-setup is able to provide. Because of this, I want to leave it up to you to decide whether you’d like your privacy during mealtimes or whether you’d like to cook and eat together. All can be discussed!
Note that while the nearest settlement is only 15 minutes away by car, it’s important that you have your own transport, so that you are not stuck waiting for me if you wish to go shopping or taste some culture by yourself in the surrounding area and settlements.
Autres infos...
While the homestead is quite centrally positioned (15 minutes to Chella, 30 minutes to Xativa, 60 minutes to Valencia - by car), it is located at the top of a (small) mountain. While it is extremely easy to step outside the door and enjoy hikes in nature or meet the neighbors, you will definitely need a car to explore the nearby settlements, do shopping or travel the wider area. As such, it’s important that you have your own transportation.

Possibilité d’accueillir les digital nomads
The private casita and connected patio provide an ideal environment to do remote work privately and in peace. The wifi has unlimited data and a good connection around the main house and the casita. While the internet is generally stable and fast, and very suitable for remote work, it functions through a satellite connection, and since we’re in the mountains, there may small periods where the internet is a bit slower than usual (but still workable).

Espace pour garer des vans
Right next to the private casita, there is a shaded parking spot that is large enough to accommodate most campers and vans. Note: if you wish to park a particularly large vehicle, please inquire beforehand and let me know the dimensions.

Possibilité d'accueillir les animaux
Dogs are welcome if they are well behaved and can get along with my doggies, Abby and Conde. My chickens, Madame Curie, Wilma, Janet and Gerda, are safely separated in their own roomy chicken coop, but if you suspect that having the ladies nearby will stress out your pets (or their prey-instincts), please inquire beforehand.
