    Description

Share our private 10 acres of forest. We are a small family living in between Noosa beaches and the beautiful Eumundi township with plenty of walking/ bike trails and markets nearby. Peregian Beach is 15 min drive & Noosa 20 min

    The work and space:
I need Workaways to help take care of some general maintenance of our 10 acre property. This consists of weeding, pruning, mowing, brush-cutting, bushfire prevention work (clearing fallen branches), assist with animal care (pets and orphaned possums) and daily house work (keep kitchen, bathroom, main living areas and outside deck tidy).

We are environmentally friendly and mostly off grid - rainwater, solar power, natural swimming pool, organic veggie garden & fruit trees, compost making, recycling grocery containers and general low impact on the environment. We are looking for workaways with the same values and respect for the earth, who value a clean and tidy living space and healthy lifestyle. Think - no smoking, 2 minute showers, composting your veggie scraps, and cleaning your recyclable grocery packaging. I can't bear to see people throw their recyclable packaging into the landfill bins or put dirty containers in the recycling bin.

The accommodation is a clean and tidy caravan next to the main house, with 2 separate queen beds, kitchen and sitting/lounge area. The bathroom and toilet are in the main house. At the moment, due to circumstances, I ask Workaways to self-cater (purchase their own food and cook it for themselves). With self-catering, the work is reduced to 3 hours per day, five days per week.

As we are in a bushfire affected postcode, your work here will count towards a Second Year Visa. A total of 88 days across various approved jobs/workaway placements, gives you the Second Year Visa. You are welcome to do part of the government requirement as a Workaway here. All of my past Workaways to date have had this visa approved with no problems. Unfortunately, I no longer guarantee that Workaways can stay for long periods of time. I am happy to guarantee a two week stay, and then discuss the possibility of staying longer after that.

Mobile phone reception, especially Telstra, is very good here as we are on the top of the hill. Our Wifi internet works well in the main house and the caravan. You will need your own mobile data for large downloads, as my internet is not very fast, but is fine for emails, googling and texting.

As we work full time, a single person may feel a bit lonely or isolated here by themselves when not working. For this reason we tend to take couples, or friends traveling together. However, if you are travelling solo and don't mind solitude, reading, meditation, solo walks, cooking for yourself and have a car, you will very much enjoy the serenity here.

    About us:
We are nature and animal lovers and enjoy an active and healthy lifestyle. We have two lovable dogs, 2 sleepy cats and lots of native wildlife. Our two lovely boys come and go between here and uni in Brisbane. Between all of us, we have a variety of knowledge we are happy to share with you – surfing, playing instruments, caring for orphaned wildlife, pottery (wheel throwing), eco-dying and more. We have lived on this property for 18 years, so we have a lot of local knowledge. We are also well travelled and happy to share our worldly experiences and recommendations with you.

I work full time as a school teacher at a local Steiner (Waldorf) school. Unless I'm on school holidays, you will have the property to yourself during the day to complete your hours, relax or explore the local walking tracks. I encourage you to get out and about and explore the Sunny Coast area as much as you can as It's my favourite part of the world. My neighbour also hosts Workaways, so you will have the opportunity to meet and socialise with other travellers if you like.

We have lived in the area for 18 years and can share knowledge of the local culture, indigenous history, and best places of interest for a wide variety of traveller interests. There is an abundance of native wildlife – birds, goannas, wallabies, snakes, possums, etc. I am a trained native wildlife carer and happy to share my experience of caring for injured native birds and marsupials. At the moment I have a baby brushtail possum that I am nursing back to health and will release back into the forest shortly. Being a bushfire prone area, our local Rural Fire Brigade practices regular bush fire hazard reduction controlled burns (using indigenous practices) on our property in the cooler months. The controlled fires continue to burn slowly for over a week and are an amazing cultural experience for our Workaways.

Having your own transport is preferred as there is no public transport here. I can do my best to drop you off where there is a bus, or take you where you need to go, especially on your days off. I work in Noosa so can drop you there easy enough. I prefer couples, or friends traveling together, as I work full time and wouldn't want someone being left on their own most of the time (unless they need lots of alone time!).
