    Description

    Hello there!

We’re originally from the UK but you should probably also ask us about South Africa and India as they’ve also played big parts in our lives. We have lived in Switzerland for just over four and a half years and we’re both teachers. Jack teaches moody teenagers in the school down the road and Robyn is self employed as a vocal coach. We recently welcomed our newest addition to the family in February 2023, Benji and are enjoying getting used to being parents.

We love living in Switzerland and exploring in our free time but our life has changed quite dramatically since the new member of our family entered our life. We now want people to use our home as a base to be able to do the same. We have lots of friends and we’re very social and we love using our home as base to explore further afield as well (Germany/France/Austria/Italy) or at least helping other people do it for themselves.

We're generally very laid back as people. We genuinely enjoy having people around the house and there's not much that can really bother us! If anything is ever a problem, we're pretty straight-forward about it. We might not always be perfectly tidy or clean, but that's a little bit where we would need your help!

I hope that first and foremost you will find somewhere where you feel safe and loved by warm and open people who genuinely want the best for you! We have our down moments and sometimes life feels stressful, but we want to share our life with you and share in your life for as much as you’re willing to let us!

We both love long chats, drinking wine and watching the odd trashy TV show. We also love exploring ourdoors, seeing new places, getting into really cold water as well as trying out every single thermal spa in the country (mostly Jack!). We love cooking good food and having people around. We would love to hear about your life and give you space to just be yourself when you stay with us.

Concretely- we will obviously speak lots of English to you and Jack can help explain lots of grammatical concepts as he teaches it. Robyn is also a vocal coach in her spare time and can help you sing like an angel if you’ve always wanted to. She’s also great at being arty and with calligraphy and lettering, too if you want to learn that. Jack is great at cooking Indian food if that’s something you’ve wanted to learn. We also both speak German and Jack can teach you a fair bit of Swiss German if you're interested! (He also speaks some Spanish and French if that's of any interest to anyone). We’re both pretty musical and love the odd jam session. We probably have other talents too, but I don’t know if burping the alphabet was worth writing down or not.

So in order of priority, these are the things we would need from you.

    1) First and foremost, you need to be comfortable looking after Benji. He's an easy-going, joyful and curious baby who hardly cries. Usually the day will involve you spending up to around 3hrs with him. You can take him on walks down to the lake, the neighbouring farms, the playground or play inside with him. He'll need regular nappy changes and depending on the schedule for the week, meals and snacks. He generally just enjoys people being silly with him and showing him things.

    2) There's usually one main cleaning job per day which is typically a room of the house. You don't have to be a perfectionist about it but giving one room a day a thorough clean helps us stay on top of things.

    3) There are usually miscellaneous jobs to do that we will write up on the whiteboard in the kitchen. Apart from that, Workawayers typically cook some meals during the week and have little creative projects that they get on with that suit them (painting the balcony, baking cakes and bread, organising all of our cupboards, building shelves- to name a few examples!)

  • Hébergement

    Hébergement

Our flat is reasonably large (by Swiss standards, at least) and gets a lot of light. It’s not in the most picturesque of all areas but it’s a nice area with lots of families (ie. don’t imagine a Swiss chalet in the mountains). You would get your own room and a bathroom (the bathroom you would just occasionally need to share). We only moved into this flat in December 2022 so we’re still making it a home! We have a lot of amenities close by with big shops and restaurants and bars and anything you could need really! If you come as a pair (couple or same-gender friends), it would really help us if you are happy to share a room- that way we can have space for family when they come to visit.

Zug is really great with lots of international people and has a great lake and mountains around with lots of nature and forest to explore. Jack loves going for a cold dip in the lake at all times of the year. We live very close to lots of the major cities and around a 10-15 minute walk (or a 5 minute bus ride) from the train station in Zug. In around 30 minutes you can be in Zurich or Lucerne. Zug is not cheap by any means, but we’ll make sure you’re well fed and will be more than happy to take you out for a drink or coffee every now and again! But there are also lots of great sports centres and swimming pools which are reasonable plus endless nature. The alps are also not too far and if we have time, we would always love to show you places over the weekend and take you out into the mountains somewhere!

You will always be able to eat with us at home. If we go out we would also be happy to treat you too. You can tell us any of your dietary requirements or just things you like to eat and we will make sure to have the right things in for you.

As stated before. We'd figure out a weekday schedule that works for both parties, then the weekends (+ some afternoons and evenings) would be free for you to do as you wanted! We have a lake very near by as well as great hiking opportunities. We're right on the edge of the alps so winter sports are pretty easily accessible. Zurich and Luzern are less than 30 minutes away on the train and Milan is just a couple of hours on the train too!
