    Description

Ekai and Emma live with two cats on a forested acre on Fox Mountain, above Williams Lake, in a gothic arch style home. We live close to the trail network for biking and hiking, and are fifteen minutes from town by car.

Williams Lake has awesome mountain biking, climbing and hiking opportunities, and is a great base camp when exploring all the Cariboo has to offer. During recent travel (Norway!) we met several kind workawayers and when we got home decided to open our home to those looking to explore the Cariboo.

Lots of hopes and dreams for our home in the woods equals lots of potential projects for workawayers! The top priorities right now: laying wood chips in the garden, putting insulation into the basement, helping with garden planting & yard clean-up, making meals, building for small projects (pig pen, sauna deck, shed, etc), and beyond.

    Perks of being here:
    - Mountain bike with us! We can help outfit you with a bike during your stay.
    - Test out the new sauna and cold plunge tub.
    - Community - we are hyper social and spend many nights a week with friends or at community events.
    - Workshop/studio space available. Currently set up for plastic recycling, formerly a pottery studio. There are sewing, crafting & painting supplies galore.
    - Home gym for you to use! We have a squat rack, chin up bar, mats, & a bike trainer.

Ideally we like to host people for a maximum of 2-3 weeks.

We love outdoor activities and offer a cultural exchange opportunity that includes mountain biking, climbing, hiking and skiing potential. We are social and can share with you the community life we love so much here. We are both working professionals and can share about our love of the environment, community building and learning too.

We have a big yard with a fire pit and garden, a micro recycling lab, a home gym, a small workshop and have a sauna and cold dunk tank too.

We have many ideas and visions. What you help with while you are here really depends on when you come to stay, and what - your skills and passions are.

The main project that brought us to host workawayers was the clearing of brush and sticks to reduce wildfire risk. We have a small forested property (1 acre) with many woodpiles and fallen trees that need to be cleared. The piles will be turned into hugelkulture garden beds or trailered for disposal. Lots of progress here, but always more to do!

Some of the other areas we could use a hand...

    2025 Outdoor Projects:
✳️We are preparing to adopt a friend's beehives. We need to build level platforms for the hives.
✳️Build the coolest shed you can imagine!
✳️Clear and prep space for the chicken coop a friend is giving us.
✳️Set up water capture to water garden
✳️Build several new garden beds (self watering totes)
✳️Collect, chop & stack firewood (help neighbors too)
    ✳️Help build/maintain local bike trails
✳️Garden work (planting, weeding, seeding, harvest)

    2025 Indoor Projects:
✳️Paint a mural in the stairwell
✳️Build a bookshelf in the living room
    ✳️Set up pantry shelving
✳️Fix 2 patches of drywall in bathroom, paint
    ✳️Website/graphic design help!
    ✳️Painting
    ✳️Cleaning dust/cobwebs our of basement

Household/Weekly Stuff: These are some things we do weekly that workawayers often help with.
✳️Help make meals and freezer meals.
✳️Shovelling snow in winter, if needed
✳️Lighting up the sauna, depending on season
    ✳️Tending to the compost
    ✳️Baking/making snacks
    ✳️Playing with the cats
✳️Make a potluck dish for a social event
    ✳️Loading pellet stove

It's really up to your interests and skillset! If you have an idea, do share!

We will cover all food expenses and share cooking responsibilities.

Williams Lake is a great place to explore the Cariboo from. We live outside of walking distance but a short drive away from town. We both work from home, but often go into town 3-4 days a week. We often go into town in the evenings or on weekends.

We can lend camping or sporting gear during your stay, and invite you to join our adventures.

Transit to Williams Lake can be challenging, there is a private bus service and an airport. There is a possibility to arrange for pick up from Kamloops or Prince George.

We have hosted four workawayers so far - it's been great fun.

We are not big party people and cannot offer that type of experience. We expect those who stay with us not to smoke cigarettes while at our home.
