We own 480 acres in a farming/ranching community. Workers will learn about raising purebred cattle. We also do our own artificial insemination (early April) on the purebred cattle. There will also be some opportunities to learn about and ride horses, and also about using working cattle dogs.
Our busy time of year is calving & AI'ing which is early January to mid April, (this is my priority months to have some help). If workers wanted to stay longer, they would be welcome to stay after our busy time, but need to stay a minimum of 3 months.
During calving, workers will have the opportunity to learn when to intervene during calving, to glove up and feel inside a cow to see if a calf is coming in malpresentation, and if they are, to assist with its birth. This is a really great learning opportunity for those wanting to go on to be a vet or have a ranch of their own.
The expected working hours would be 5 days/week, 5 hours/day.

We start calving about January 5th. My husband works , (5 days/week). The main thing I would like help with is with the cattle. These jobs could include checking on the cattle for when they start to calve (they may need to go in the barn if it is cold), cleaning the dirty straw out of the barn & re-bedding it with straw, putting the cows out of the barn to water them, helping to feed cows (cutting twine on round bales while I feed them with a tractor), checking on and keeping the salt & mineral full for the cattle, feeding 5 gallon pails of pellets to yearling bulls, and halter breaking calves. Also, when calves are born, they need to be weighed, tagged & given vitamin needles. Also, some work around the barnyard and yard. Also, dishes after supper.

    Hébergement

We live in a log house, and our guests would have the whole basement which includes their own bedroom and bathroom. (They will be responsible to keep it clean)
We eat 3 meals/day with our supper being a family sit-down meal. We are Christians & say grace at supper time. We eat our own beef, and sometimes some wild game including moose & elk. We eat a lot of vegetables as well. (As well as potatoes, rice & pasta).

Depending on the season, ... there are many opportunities for recreation in our area, including horseback riding, snowshoeing, snowmobiling, hiking, fishing & hunting. Also... there will be times ( if you don't mind being woke up in the night), that you can see the very beautiful Northern Lights!!!!

We have 3 grown daughters, all with families of their own, (4 grand-sons & 1 grand-daughter:) family is very important to us!
