Description
--- Look after my garden between February 1 and February 17, 2026 while I travel. ---
We are a family of 3 that includes me and our two sons Reuben 25 and Jericho 27.
We live in Sandringham, Auckland which is 5-6 km from CBD and also beach in different direction. There are many beaches and scenic places to visit, plus nearby islands.
Reuben and Jericho will likely be here and working in their jobs, if not also away traveling. Lola, our black cat aged 2 is here.
You will be asked to water and harvest vegetables or fruit from garden, fermenting beans, some weeding or lawn mowing as well. I envisage about 12 hours of work per week is needed for this. I will provide some food and you can provide the rest.
I would like you to arrive to our home between January 29 and February 1, so that I have a few days to show you what you will be doing. I am away from February 4 to February 17. You may stay a bit longer if required.
We have had many workaways in the past and enjoy having guests from other countries to stay.

Permaculture gardening, but without chickens due to space needed. Vegetarian and vegan cooking. I also can show you how to make fermented foods which I like to do from garden veges. At times we are doing sourdough bread and kombucha.
Aide
Helping in garden with weeding, compost, lawns and sweeping leaves. Cleaning inside and outside. Occasionally some painting which I teach your how to do. DIY projects for those who have the skills.

Auckland is the largest city in New Zealand. There are many beaches, museums, art galleries and a zoo to visit. There is a nearby island that is worth a day trip or overnight stay. Weather is not too hot or too cold.

My first workaway address . I really enjoyed being with Cindy, to work and swim together.she is also a great cook with food from the garden. I loved it.
I had a nice large room where I feel very comfortable. We shared the bathroom but there were two so that was fine.

Marian is an experienced gardener and had her own catering business. She was very capable and took initiative to do tasks on her own. She is also very pleasant and fun to be around. We would welcome her back.

Cindy is extremely nice! She was lovely company, and makes delicious healthy food. However, the house is quite dirty. Hygiene is not great here. The same sponge to clean the cat bowl was used to clean the forks and knives! It's very dusty. I had a nice time staying with Cindy and family at the end of my working holiday. The jobs were straightforward and the food was great. They are also in a great spot in the city which worked out well for selling my car and getting to the airport to catch my flight out.

Thomas stayed 2 weeks with us and was absolutely amazing. A real great handyman with multiple skills. He actually found things to repair, painted a ceiling, stained a large deck and was great to discuss options for my current induction hob issue with. A really fun pleasant guy to have around. Would have him back any time.

I enjoyed my stay with Cindy, Phillip and the family. The work is varied and can be tough but Cindy is fair and makes sure you work only the hours agreed. There is plenty of food and I was made to feel welcome, they also took me along on family outings so you get to see more of the area.

Anja and Eileen were a pleasure to have in our house. They were fun and full of ideas for the garden. They got in well with everyone in the house. I would highly recommend them.

We spent our first 3,5 weeks from our trip with Cindy and her family in Auckland.
They made us feel welcome and helped us in the beginning to settle in New Zealand.

I (Florencia) stayed two and a half weeks with Cindy and her family in Auckland. They are a nice and friendly family, living in a beautiful house. I spend one week in Cindy house. They have a beautiful house and cooking very good. The job is very mixed, clean inside the house, painting, help in a garden, clean the leaves of garden,... You can negotiate what options have for work.
They can explain you a lot of thing you can do and visit in New Zealand
