    Description

Hello, we are a young family living in a small seaside village in Spain. We moved a few years ago from a spanish countryside home that we had spent years transforming with the help of some wonderful helpers… that's where the reviews are from.

Now we are living a very different life and have different needs… mostly childcare, DIY and general house and pet maintenance. We made so much progress through the hard work of our volunteers and made some wonderful connections and lifelong friends, so we have decided to reactivate our profile!

We are Hazel and Tyler, and occasionally Susan (Hazel's mum)

Oban 9, Connel 7, and almost 5-year-old, Brenin.

We have a dog called Nash who is in constant need of a run, Nellie who is a couch potato and 2 cats Marsha and Merle.
You can't ever go wrong with taking Nash for a walk, it'll make him so happy. He's nearly 11 but still thinks he's a youngun.

We have lived here a while now and have most stuff figured out ... but like most busy families, we struggle with the workload of managing the practicalities of DIY, kids, animals and chores.

Our house is a 1 minute walk from the beach and Mar Menor and a 1 minute walk in the other direction to the train station, where the train goes regularly into the port city of Cartagena or to the nearby town of La Union where you can pick up fruit and veg at the local market. We also have a bike that you can borrow… this area is great for getting around by bike and it’s Hazel and the boys’ only transport. We also have a kayak and paddle board if you fancy taking those out! The village is quiet but has a lively little square where you can get a coffee or tapas or beer. There is a great sense community that welcomes everyone and we are so happy we moved here from the isolation of the countryside. .

There is a great sense community that welcomes everyone and we are so happy we moved here from the isolation of the countryside... but we are still so close to nature here so there's hikes, bird watching and mountain trails aplenty very close by.

Food is varied. We generally try to eat lunch or dinner together as a family (and you are included in that of course!). Breakfast is more of a help yourself afair!
The kids have a routine, they also equally like to throw their routine out the window sometimes. Sometimes we eat dinner with them at 5.30 but sometimes I try to get them in bed and have a peaceful dinner at 8. Every day is different and generally speaking they are our priority…

So if you are not ready to be adaptable when it comes to your schedule, you are going to struggle.

We love knowledgeable, skilled people, we love patient people, we love practical people, we love people who say “hang on a minute, let me write that down so I will remember”.

We have difficulties with people that need to be handheld through tasks and whilst we don’t expect you to have all the answers… Common sense combined with the confidence to ask questions or voice your thoughts are essential for us. We love self starters. We have had really positive experiences but also have had some difficult characters, so we ask, that if you’re reliant on alcohol or a regular cannabis user, you don’t consider a stay with us. We love a beer or wine in the evening and will happily share a drink with you at the end of the day!

We are looking for helpers that can muck in and help with whatever needs to be done at the time.

The work is varied, depending on the season, the weather, what projects we have, what money we have at the time, the kids and of course what you can do. Generally, it’ll be painting, sorting and organizing and maybe some childcare.

If you see something that needs doing - do it!

  • Hébergement

    Hébergement

Accommodation - we have a single sofa bed in the house for a shorter stay or for more privacy, we can offer the caravan in the garden- it’s small but cosy… the 5 of us tayed in it for 5 weeks this summer when we drove from Spain to Scotland and back!

We equally welcome helpers that work online etc and need fixed hours off- but please do just let us know, we have many schedules and plans and people to consider so just be clear - even better… write it down. We rely on lists and calendars and reminders!

Our first language is English… Hazel is from the Uk and Tyler is from the USA… and Spanish is a work in progress... We would prefer helpers who have some level of English but please also use this as an opportunity to improve your English (Hazel and Tyler are both English teachers)...

    So, please get in touch.

We used to be helpers ourselves before we had kids so we really get it and what its like and wont ever ask you do to something we wouldn't do! Sometimes I might say “oh no I forgot to hang the laundry out, but now we have a doctors appointment, would you mind doing it?”- if that sounds like a reasonable request then you are very welcome :)
