Description
Minimum stay for volunteers 4 to 6 weeks.
Our project has various objectives: self sustainability, organic agriculture, animal shelter, horse guided empowerment, a retreat center and a production of native herbal products.
We are located at about 4000 meters high, which means that everything is much more intense. Acclamation of beforehand in Puno is obligatory. Physical and mental strength is needed in this place. During the day the sun can be very strong but once the it goes down it gets very cold! We need help from people with discipline, willing to work and with a sense of responsibility.
Auto-sustainability & organic agriculture
Being already independent on water and electricity, we aspire to be as much as posible independent on food by the next 5 years. We have a piece of land where we can cultivate potatoes and veggies from the region and oats and alfalfa for the animals. We are experimenting and researching to cultivate organic.
Horses
We currently take care of thirteen horses and two dogs. With our shelter we want to provide a safe space for our animals, a place where they can live as natural as possible. We need to prepare some horses that they can be ridden. We mainly do ground work and would like to prepare our horses to be able to work with children and help in therapy and coaching.
Production of native herbal products. Mainly Muña.
We are a family with a 4 years old child, we would really love to have an exchange with other families with small children from 4 to 10 years....

Hébergement
We are living in a stone house made with material from the region. We are 1km from the village of Chucuito. From the house, we have a direct view of the Titicaca Lake and Chucuito. The horses, sheeps, alpacas, chicken and the dogs are roaming freely around us. You will share a room with maximum 1 other volunteer. We have a separate volunteer’s kitchen and bathroom. There is no heating so it can get very cold at night and no WIFI! We have limited electricity with solar power and limited hot water thanks to a thermal heater. On cloudy days there can be no hot water! We offer hot lunch 5 days a week.

From Puno: you need to get to the Colectivo's bus station heading to Chucuito. The voyage take about 30 minutes and costs 3 Soles. We will come and get you in Chucuito.

Yo estuve en chucuito donde santiago y anja por dos semanas y estaba un muuy muy bien tiempo y una experiencia muy divertido, tranquillo y interessante. This is an amazing place with an amazing experience with amazing people. I cannot recommend coming here enough and bonding with the horses and the beautiful location just outside Puno. I will probably try and come back to work and live with these amazing people and of course the sweet as horses at sometime in my life. Thanks for everything guys.

We stayed with Anja and Santiago in Chuicuito for two weeks and wished we could have stayed longer. It was great working with the horses and being involved with their project. My stay here was my favorite Workaway experience. I worked closely with horses and learned the personality of each horse. The work was very physical, and I enjoyed having something active to do everyday instead of sitting at a desk. It also helped me prepare for a five day hike to Machupicchu. I stayed with my boyfriend Jonas at Anya and Santiago's for three weeks in October. It was exactly the kind of experience we were looking for in Peru, and we plan on returning (for at least a short visit) after our time in Bolivia.
