    Description

We’re a family of four living in the sunny South of France, just an hour from Toulouse, surrounded by rolling hills, fresh air, and a whole lot of hay. With six horses, five foals, two kids, and zero dull moments, life here is equal parts chaos and charm.

Our mission? To build a self-sustaining slice of paradise—where the land feeds the horses, the horses fertilize the land, and we try to stay one step ahead of both. It’s the perfect place for someone who loves working with young horses and wants to be part of a hands-on, grounded approach to breeding and raising foals.

This isn’t just a home—it’s a shared project built from the ground up, one hoofprint at a time.

We’re an international family—South African and Dutch—living in the French countryside. English is our home language, but we also speak Dutch and are navigating life in French, so there’s plenty of opportunity to practice or pick up all three languages depending on your interests.

You’ll get a taste of multicultural family life, learn about raising horses and foals from the ground up, and experience rural living in one of France’s most beautiful regions. We love exchanging stories, recipes, and perspectives—and we’re always curious to learn more about where our Workawayers come from too.

Whether you’re interested in horses, languages, farm life, or just want a quieter, more grounded way of living for a little while, there’s something here for you. And for those with horse experience, there may be opportunities to ride.

    Aide

The help we need might include:
    • Feeding and grooming horses
    • Mucking out and general stable care
    • Helping with foal handling and early education
    • Light farm maintenance (fence fixing, water checks, etc.)
    • Pitching in with family life if you’re up for it (we have two kids under 10)

We offer a peaceful, rural setting with beautiful views, good food, and a real hands-on experience of countryside life. You’ll have plenty of time to explore the region—and yes, Toulouse is just an hour away.

We’re easygoing, practical people, and we love sharing this way of life with others. If you’re up for early mornings, fresh air, and being part of a small family team—we’d love to hear from you.

We’re not running a business at the moment—just working hard to create a self-sufficient life on our little piece of paradise.

Workawayers will not be asked to handle horses unsupervised—all work will be done together, so it’s a fantastic opportunity to observe and learn proper techniques for building trust and confidence in young horses.

  • Hébergement

    Hébergement

You’ll stay in a charming garden cottage with two bedrooms, a small lounge, your own kitchen, and a private patio—ideal for slow mornings or starlit evenings. The bathroom is shared (not en suite), but the space is cozy and well-equipped for a comfortable stay.

The cottage overlooks a beautiful hillside and a nearby fortified town—perfect for soaking in the scenery. You’ll also share the garden with a very sociable pair of goats, who consider themselves part of the welcome committee.

And yes—there’s a lovely swimming pool, perfect for cooling off after a day of horse work or just lounging in the sun with a book. It adds just the right touch of luxury to rural life.

We provide three meals a day as part of the exchange. We usually have cereal/meusli for breakfast, fresh bread for lunch and a cooked dinner.

We feel food is a great way to connect and share cultures. When that’s not practical, you’ll have access to a well-stocked kitchen with plenty of ingredients to prepare your own meals.

Please note: we follow a low FODMAP (IBS-friendly) diet in the household. We stock lactose-free milk, and while gluten is not a problem in our home we eat food including gluten daily.

    Possibilité d’accueillir les digital nomads

If you’re a digital nomad looking to balance meaningful hands-on work with reliable remote time, our farm is a great fit. • We have fast, reliable Wi-Fi suitable for streaming, video calls, and all your digital needs. • If you’re the only Workawayer, you’ll have your own kitchen, lounge, and private patio for quiet work and downtime. • When hosting two helpers, these spaces are shared—but still comfortable and welcoming. • We typically ask for 4–5 hours of help per day, 5 days a week, leaving ample time to focus on your projects.

    Possibilité d'accueillir les animaux

We love animals and welcome pets of any size or kind—big or small—just let us know in advance so we can chat about what will work best. Our family includes three dogs (two teenage German Shepherds and one dachshund), a friendly pair of goats, and plenty of horses. We adore cats, but our dogs aren’t fans, so indoor cats are definitely welcome. If you’re thinking of bringing a pet, please mention it when you apply so we can make sure everyone will be happy and comfortable.
