We are settled in the Beni Department of Bolivia, home of the famous Swiss "Cru Sauvage" chocolate. Tranquilidad is an agro-forestry and small cattle estate of about 500 hecatres halfway between Huacaraje and Baures. It was build by Volker in 2003 from the ground into a native forest, holding 300 hectares of wild cacao stands. It is well established and has all basic facilities. It takes 8 to 10 hours of travel from Trinidad to Tranquilidad and during the rainy season the roads are in bad conditions and it could take longer. There are bus at night and taxi during the day available in Trinidad.

The volunteering experience will give deep insides into the livelihood of amazon natives and how to run a farm far away from big cities. The traveler will learn, during harvest season from mid December to February, how cacao is fermented and dried and can experience simple chocolate making, of one of the best cacaos in the world. There is also possibility to do some help in the community, but basic Spanish speaking would be required!
Wild Cacao harvest management will be practiced only during December to March. The rest of the year we have agricultural activities, Teak plantation management and wood processing as well as building and maintenance. You should be willing to help at every step. We do not process chocolate. The cacao beans get exported to produce our own Tranquilidad chocolate in the US.
The farm houses have two individual rooms for couples and one three bed room. There are also two tents available each with two camping beds. Low Internet reception and phone on the farm. Since 2018 it works somehow better.
We had several students before doing their thesis. They all loved it. You will learn about little town activities of Baures and Huacaraje deep in the Bolivian Amazon.
