  • Description

The goals are inspired by the book Evening Thoughts, by Thomas Berry. Our name comes from what gave the first breath of life to the earth, and is what inspires our souls. This notion also has origins in ancient Greek civilization as the term is used to articulate ideas about humans existing with a soul. We believe that with you, we will be able to learn and cooperate to make this world a better place to live.

We provide respite within our walls from a western civilization that is addicted to material gain and consumption. In fact, this is our primary goal and is at the heart of our existence.

It has been in existence for 9 years and is currently managed by husband and wife team, Sarah and Sebastian.

We are located in a rural area of Mexico, 10 minutes from the closest pueblo (San Isidro Mazetepec) and one hour outside of Guadalajara (the second largest city in Mexico). Our farm offers a tranquil respite from the busyness of city life. Here, you can immerse yourself in nature, while learning the skills needed to live in harmony with the natural world. We will exchange stories over weekly shared meals, swapping perspectives and cultivating curiosity. Day trips to local parks and/or the city can be arranged to enrich the volunteer experience.

In addition to our permaculture farm, we operate a small B&B, which helps to finance ongoing development of the project. We need help in areas both related to the farm and B&B. These areas include: gardening, natural pool maintenance, animal care, general maintenance, mural painting, and/or cleaning of the hotel.

Depending on the season in which you volunteer (rain, dry) our schedule varies, but in general we do tasks from 8am-1pm Mon-Fri. We do tasks around the rain/sun, so it is important to be flexible as we may need to diverge from the schedule at times.

If you are applying to help in any area related to the farm, you must be physically fit.

  • Hébergement

You will stay in our eco-dome, a super adobe build, which features a massive skylight. Perfect for solo travelers, couples, or groups of friends. There are three beds in total (two twin, and one king). There are a series of compost toilets just outside the dome, and a shower within 50 meters. Wifi is limited in the dome, but you will have access to the main hotel, where we have a decent signal, plus a spacious living room and a fully equipped kitchen.* We will stock the kitchen with basic dry ingredients for you to prepare most meals, and we will provide a stipend of $300 MXP per week for you to purchase your own fruits and vegetables from the town. You are also welcome to use food from the farm, which will change depending on the season. We will share 2-3 meals together each week.

*In the event that we rent the entire hotel/house, you will be asked to use an alternate kitchen space.

We have a natural pool that is great for cooling off in the afternoons. We have a growing library of books in Spanish and English, some board games, a fire pit, and a television with Netflix. We are beginning to host more yoga and meditation retreats that you are welcome to participate in (even better if you are a yoga teacher and would like to collaborate with us!) We visit the local town almost daily, and you can catch a ride with us if you need to pick up supplies or simply want to experience life in a Mexican pueblo. You can take a bus from the town to Guadalajara, or wait and visit the city when we make our monthly (sometimes bi-weekly) trip. There are hot springs located 20 minutes from us, and we can arrange a visit during your stay.
