    Description

We are a family of five living in Cuernavaca, about a 10 minute walk from the Cuernavaca's center. My husband, called Gens, is a visionary arts painter and I'm an NGO worker trying to turn into an artist myself, mostly through singing and writing. We moved to Cuernavaca about a year ago, after living 8 years in Cuetzalan, a town in the mountains of Puebla where the great majority of the people is Náhuat speaking. Over there we worked in an NGO with an education and arts project. We learned a lot over there, about Náhuat culture and life in general. But we had to come back to the urban life, and we're still adjusting to Cuernavaca and Mexico City.

Currently I have a hybrid job in an NGO which requires me to be in Mexico City and other places in Mexico for about half the week. The rest of the week I'm at home but mostly doing home office. When I'm not working I enjoy spending time with my children; reading them books or just playing with them. Sometimes I also "play to sing" with them: we mix different singing exercises with theater, yoga and physical exercise in general. When I go out to work, Gens stays with the children and paints at home, and sometimes, when our children are at school, he goes out to paint murals. The kids mostly go to school and some afternoons they also go to gym school.

The garden is very big and we have a pool with no heat. This area is tended and lived by a couple from Taxco and their family; though only the couple and their son live here, you will see other members of their extended family come and go. In the garden we tried to keep a compost and a couple of vegetables, but it didn't work out; we ended up attracting mice and we stopped it for a while. We would love to find someone who knows more about these subjects and is working to put in the energy to teach us how to do it properly.

In general we are also looking for someone who would like to perfect their Spanish but already knows a bit; who likes to cook and doesn't mind washing dishes and cleaning in general; who is good with children. In particular we would also like to have someone who knows how to fix things (for example we need help painting the walls; putting up curtains; etc.).; or who has had experience in permaculture and/or ecobuilding; or who has had experience in creative workshops with children (for example upscaling clothes would be a dream for one of our children!).

In exchange we offer the opportunity to enjoy painting in Gens' studio, as well as the possibiltiy of getting to know a painting studio in the heart of Cuernavaca. You may also participate in the singing through play exercises I do with my children, though these are only once a week at the most. Last but not least you may enjoy time on your own to sightsee the city. Sometimes, if you are lucky, we may take you to a Temazcal (sweat lodge), or to an art expo. It depends on how much time you are staying and the activities that are available at the moment.

We share the cooking duties in between family members, and you'd be expected to cook at one or two meals a week for everybody, The breakfast and dinner we can do by ourselves, and though you can use the food in the fridge, you can also have it on your own or share it with us (as you like best).

More than anything, we believe in learning from one another—through conversation, art, food, daily rituals, and the sharing of perspectives. Having lived in an indigenous town for many years, we deeply value the richness that comes from embracing different ways of life. Whether you're an artist, a nature enthusiast, a language learner, or just someone curious about Mexican culture and family life, we'd love to co-create a meaningful and nourishing time together.

Our home is a space in transformation, and we’re excited about building community as we grow. If you’re someone who appreciates authenticity, collaboration, and cultural dialogue—we’d be happy to hear from you.

We would like help mostly with daily home tasks such as:

    - Cooking:
we would expect for you to cook and share at least two meals a week (we usually eat around 3:00pm). Breakfast and dinner you can have on your own and cook only for you. We would provide the food for you to cook with.

    - Kitchen's maintenance:
we usually share these tasks: cooking and feeding the dogs; cleaning the fridge; taking the organic remains to the compost; taking out the trash from the multiple trash cans in the house .

    - General order in the house:
having kids in the house can be hectic. And although we are actively trying for the kids to clean up after themselves, they are learning still. So, once a week we hope you can help us to order whatever is out of place.

    Arts and crafts:
If you have experience in music (singing or playing instruments), in visual arts (drawing or painting in different mediums); sculpture, or in general arts and crafts for kids, we would love for you to share your practice with us and/or with our kids.

    Gardening and permaculture:
If you have any experience with permaculture or gardening skills, we would be delighted to have someone teach us more.

    House maintenance:
The house needs some general improvements, that if you know how to do would be greatly appreciated.
