We get guests from all over the world, most of them speak English but a basic level of Spanish is helpful. Volunteers will do all of their own food ordering each week and it must be done in Spanish – good way to learn. You will learn a lot from just being in this environment, the surroundings are truly breathtaking and you will never get sick of the views. A greater love for nature will come naturally.
We are right on the edge of the UNESCO Huascaran National Park, the highest mountain range in the tropics of the world. The adventure capital of South America. Prime trekking.
WE ARE PUTTING ROOFS ON!!!
We are specifically looking for people with skills and experience (even relatively basic) in carpentry. We currently are in the process of completing separate staff/volunteer accommodation, including bathroom and private kitchen and need people who can help us complete this. We are looking for hard working people who have enough previous experience and knowledge in this department that they are able to work without supervision and instruction. If you have SOME experience in carpentry or building but are a fast learner, hard worker and can follow instruction then we can definitely use your help. Anybody with experience in any trade (carpentry, plumbing, electrician etc) or is just handy with a drill is welcome to apply.
We have many long-term plans for the lodge including new accommodation blocks and cabanas and a new restaurant – so we will never run out of work!
We also need people to help with the cleaning of rooms. Washing and changing the sheets, basic room cleaning and preparing for the new guests. We will show you how to do all of this.
We are looking for a nanny - male or female for our 3 year old son who needs entertaining, watching & educating. Someone with previous childcare experience is preferable (must be native english speaker - British would be ideal). We would love to have someone who could organise activities and "classes" for him during the day.
We have a large property with a LOT of grass. We need mowing, weeding, hedge cutting, land clearing and general maintenance. This is pretty much a full time job coupled in with handyman.
If you have some or all of these skills then please apply! Our most important project is the building but if you are a general all-rounder then there is always something to do.
TRAIL RUNNING EVENT
YOU WILL NEED TO START HERE ACCLIMATISED TO THE ALTITUDE.
On the 21/7/18 we have our trail running event in the Huascaran National Park. 15K, 30K, 50K.
We are looking for volunteers for a week, 4 days before, the event day, and 2 days after. we will provide accommodation and food.
4 days before the event: Marking the route with flags and tape, general logistic work.
For the night of the Friday 20/7/18: You will be camped out in couples in the Huascaran National Park at our expense, with our equipment and food. Your job will be to direct runners on the course and to provide them with food and water. To note down their time they passed you, and pass this info onto HQ via radio comms. To take photos and supply these to event administration with the runner times.
2 days after the event: Route sweep for rubbish and flags, equipment clean and inventory, site clean.
We are in the process of building the separate staff/volunteer accommodation.
The volunteer accommodation will include 4 bedrooms, basic kitchen, bathroom and living area for volunteers/staff. At the moment all of the bedrooms are finished but we still need to do everything else. We will try to have a private room for any couples but this will, of course, depend on how many volunteers we have. Otherwise you will be in a dorm of 3 or 4. If you are a couple please inquire directly about the room availability. We can take up to 8 volunteers at a time.
LOOKING FOR: We are ideally looking for couples or pairs of friends. This is largely due to our isolation and how busy we are. No smokers!
ALTITUDE: We are at 3500m altitude, this is to be respected. You will need to acclimatize before arriving! A reasonable level of fitness and health is required to be able to work here.
DOGS: We have two dogs - Rhodesian ridgebacks - that despite at first seeming like guard dogs are really just two big babies that want your love and affection. So if you are not a dog person then this might not be right for you – dog walking is often part of the package.
INTERNET: If you want internet you MUST buy your own BITEL (Phone Company) sim card. This is easily done with a passport and you can get 2GB of data for 30 days for 30 soles, pretty reasonable. There are BITEL shops everywhere including Huaraz and YUNGAY.
Our wifi runs through the same Bitel SIM, it is only 3G.
We did try to give free internet to volunteers but unfortunately with just two volunteers on the wifi it all freezes up, and there is none for us to take bookings or for clients to use.
The client/admin internet is not available to volunteers and volunteers using it will be asked to leave.
FOOD: Foodstuffs are provided for every day of the week. However we only eat vegan and therefore will only be providing those foods. Vegan + eggs (within reason) is the basic diet here (for the workers – not the guests) but if you are wanting to eat meat, cheese or milk then you are more than welcome to order it when we order the food and pay for it separately. Time spent cooking, eating and washing up is not part of volunteers hours.
WATER: The water from the taps come straight from the mountain spring and is drinkable ☺️.
HOUSEKEEPING: As in any home, occupants must take part in keeping the volunteer space clean & tidy, including their own space and bed. This includes sweeping & mopping, dusting, cleaning bathrooms, WC, showers and general living area. Please do not let the space get messy. Our hotel staff are most definitely not here to look after volunteers in any way whatsoever. Time spent housekeeping volunteer space is also not part of volunteers hours (obviously).
ACCESS/ISOLATION: We are 40 minutes by car to the nearest town YUNGAY (Get a bus to YUNGAY) and any shops. We are very isolated - there is nothing around besides mountains, lakes, hikes, pine trees and grass – heaven! So please take this into account when applying. Being someone who gets along with other people easily is very important here – it’s not fun to be in such an isolated environment when not everybody gets along. If you are a hard-working but easy-going legend then you are the perfect fit.
DURATION: We want people who can stay for a minimum of one month. Long enough to really get stuck into the work and also time to see all of the amazing surroundings on your days off.
TREKKING: We are one of the best hotels in the area. We are a dedicated day trek lodge. Any volunteers who want to go on multi-day treks are more than welcome to and can fulfil their weekly hours over fewer days to take days off for trekking in the park.
For the security of all: my family and home, workawayers, clients and staff we do require that your passports be held by us during your stay. If you wish to leave early we of course let you have your passports back for your early departure.
